Car Wont Turn Over/Key Wont Come Out

Soooo I have a 08 e92 35i, and this weekend I decided to bust her open and clean my Vanos Solenoid's and switch them. Once put together she started up no problem. after about 5 -8 minutes of it idling, I drove my car down the street and back and I noticed a loud ticking sound coming from the engine (probably valves) .. besides the point; I opened the hood to check it out and noticed a fair amount of smoking coming from around or between my intake and valve cover. Directly following that I turned the car off and checked out the smoke again trying to pin point the problem. could smell it but didn't see anything.. I went to turn the car off completely and the key would not come loose and normal fob functions like pushing it in to turn off or on was ineffective. Eventually I just ripped out the fob so I could lock the doors but when I get in the car without the fob even in, my car thinks the key is in.. Has anyone experienced this problem before and if so what might this be and how can I fix it. Thank you

You broke the key socket when you yanked the key out.

You sure you had it in park when you were trying to take the key out? Had it happen to me once, went through the gears and back to park, then it came out. But yeah it's probably broken now too.

step out of the car and breathe in out few minutes and make sure you check everything. Yeah probable you had the car in D and key fob will not come out this way...

did you make sure you did not cross wire the solenoid connectors? maybe your did not place them back in correctly? Maybe oil is coming out?

You cant remove the key when you run out of battery or the electrical power is not there (bad connection) after the key is inserted. You shouldnt have forced it out.
When the key gets stuck, always remove the blade key open the trunk and wiggle the battery cables to see if it gets power. Hopefully nothing major is damaged.

I must admit I am not use to the delicacy of these nice cars but yes it was as simple as just moving my shifter a tad bit up in to park completely and it came out no problem.. had to take a few minutes and think. key fob is fine but def not doing that again. Thanks a lot to all of you, appreciate the help.
