Laquer coming off wheels
The Laquer is coming off my genuine wheels, it's predominantly around the world centre badges, would they been repaired or replaced under warranty?
My warranty is up end of January. Thanks |

Had the same on my 2012 E92. Took it in for its first service (about 12000 miles) and they replaced all four without question. When I px'd that car in Sept (30k miles) with BMW, the new wheels had gone the same way and the dealer didn't even mark it down on the check list. Its a very well known and expensive problem (for BMW). You'd think they'd have changed their supplier or changed the manufacturing process as it must cost them a lot of dosh. Unless of course one of the BMW board of directors has shares in the wheel company.....
Doing various searches, it appears to have been a problem for at least 10 years. Do any other manufacturers have the same issue? |

All 4 of my badly kerbed 65,000 mile 403Ms had the lacquer-lift problem around the centre cap.
No quibble in the slightest, all 4 replaced under warranty.

As to the design, it will be a BMW request to make 'diamond cut' styles, to the dismay of the supplier. I can only assume they at least try to cover 'lacquer peel warranty' costs in the cost of the wheel. To answer the OP's question about changing to another style of wheel. I doubt this is possible unless in the interests of the dealer. The supplier has a duty to replace the faulty item like for like, and there is usually no way to communicate in this process. Good luck with the warranty claim. |
