ECU Tuning Information, Options

Hi all.. so I am looking to do an ECU tune on my N52 equipped F10 soon. What sort of options do I have, and what sort of power gains should I see with my engine? Im thinking of going with the eurocharge tune. they quoted me at $500. Should I also go for a primary cat delete while I'm at it, or should I save that for when I can afford headers? also, what sort of gains should I see with a muffler modification such as the PE Mod? is it worth the $400 or should I just get a Magnaflow muffler?

any suggestions, opinions, information is greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

The most gain on an N52 comes from installing the three stage 330 manifold. That is an easy 25 hp and with a chip tune, which is required to get the ECU to recognize the 3 stage intake, another 10 to 20 hp. Headers add about 20 hp, but are noisy and can be difficult to adapt to emissions controls. Performance muffler adds about 5 hp, but does get rid of a very large and heavy muffler weighing about 30 or 40 pounds. Some just delete the muffler and put on a straight pipe if you want more noise.

For chip tunes, Turner Motor Sports is reasonable, but you have to mail in your ECU or pay extra for an installer that will accept an email file. They have a 25% discount going on now, so about $380 or plus $163 with the installer. Active Autowerkes, Bimmer Tuning, ESS Tuning, and Dinan offer chip tuning and possible services for installing the 3 stage manifold, usually $500 and up for chip tuning.

OK, thanks!
someone on here mentioned that my n52 equipped f10 may already have a dual/3 stage manifold, do you know anything about this? is there a way for me to check under the hood? also, do you know anything about eurocharged? any information is much appreciated. many thanks!

It depends on if you have a 525, 528, which are single stage, or a 530, which are 3 stage. My 3 stage came off of a 530. You can also look at the manifold and see if you have the two DISA valves bolted onto to or not.

This ad shows the manifold and the DISAs that bolt on. Most of us get a used manifold, average $150, versus a new one, $700+, included in this kit:

If you have the 3 stage, then chip, intake, and exhaust upgrades are all you can do and these are very expensive mods per hp gained, unless you want a supercharger or turbo. At some point, trading in for a 335 or 535 might be more viable.

Yeah it's a bit tight, but look on the right side of engine bay, and you should see is you have the 2 DISA valves (sitting on the left of manifold) then you got the 3 stage. I always thought only the N51 came with it. Also, if you don't you should have 2 cables/fittings which are not hooked up if you have the 2 stage which both end in a dead plug/connection on top of the manifold.

Here is an old picture of my 3 stage, to give you an idea, DISA valves are split with one on inside and the other one on outside of manifold bend.

Here is a pic of the two connectors for the DISAs, near the throttle body, just waiting to be connected. If they are not connected, you have single stage.
