M235i calling for first oi change?????/

My 2016 M235i is now calling for an oil change. Got an email from BMW that the car phoned home and asked for an oil change. I checked the idrive and it does say its ready for an oil change. The car only has 2400 miles on it and when I start the engine it says "service due in 8000 miles." Could this oil change just be due to time not mileage? I bought the car on Dec31, 2015 so I'm at the year mark. I didn't think they did time based oil changes. I do almost all city driving in steamy Hotlanta.

I changed the oil myself at 1200 miles for break in.

1yr Change

10K Millage or 1yr due to acidity of the oil (what I have read).

Mine did the same thing - 'told them it needed service' way ahead by miles, but at the 1-year point. Nice thing was that it confirms they did not reset my maintenance history when I did an elective break-in oil change last spring.

And as a heads up, neither the car, nor myself was smart enough to also remind me I needed a safety inspection at the year point too - so now I need a second apt - that pinged 'due' about a week later, for some reason. DK about Georgia, but here in NYS the only thing you get a pass on for a new car is the emissions check - they want a regular equipment check at the year mark.

1 year from the build date is the first time based change. For me, 11/15 build, purchased in 7/16. My first oil changed showed 12/16. They changed it me mid Nov with 3k miles

As everyone says, your car is perfectly normal. My 2012 135i has called for an oil change about every 12 months for the last 4 years even though it only has 20,000 miles on it.

The only thing abnormal here is how little you've driven the car. :/ Get it out on the open road man! Let it live!! Let it be free!!!

but seriously, drive your car.

So I took the car in to the the dealer this week. The service advisor pops my key in the reader and tells me it doesn't need anything. I told him I got an email that said the car asked for an oil change. He said the dealer puts that out. Sure didn't look like a dealer email to me. Anyway, I thanked him for wasting my time during a busy Christmas week and assured him I'll never be back.

Best is to just go in to the iDrive and check on the service section...

That will tell you how much time/miles for service for oil, brakes, brake fluid etc
