did you check the oil filter housing gasket, it will run down the front of the engine and run along the oil pan.

Good point, I didn't think of that. I will check this morning once my garage warms up. Hopefully that is the culprit as its an easy fix.

I will be changing the oil filter housing gasket anyway when I retrofit an oil heat exchange from an E60.

Looks like the pan gasket to me. If the OFHG is leaking to get that much oil onto the pan, then the front of your engine will be a complete mess. You have a bunch of oil at the bottom of the bell housing, which indicates the the back of the pan is leaking.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

You are correct. Upon closer inspection with better lighting I can tell it's the oil pan.

Well this sucks.

I read the DIY for this on this forum, it does not sound like a fun time. Even though that option doesn't require you to drop the subframe it still scares me.

Even the method that removes the oil pan completely that require the subframe removed looks terrifying.

Anybody ever paid to have this done?

Check to see if the pan bolts are properly torqued first. It might help. Let us know what happens...

You need to look at AWD oil pan gasket replacement prices, because that is more work due to front differential being bolted to the oil pan and the passenger wheel axle going through the oil pan through a tunnel.

You should always try this first, it works a lot of the time, especially if it's a high mileage car. Just be careful not to over-tighten because the aluminum bolts will break easily. Not too much pressure. Use a small wrench and when the bolt shows resistance to turning, stop.

I thought about checking this as soon as I put the belly pan back on and lowered to the ground. Whats the torque specs on those? Ive read they are 25 ft-lbs all the way up to 88 ft-lbs.

Might check this weekend, I hear my area is getting some snow dumped on us.

My oil pan gasket has been leaking for 2 years and my computer has never shown low oil. So I let it leak.

The oil pan aluminum bolts torque specs are on the inch-lbs scale, not ft-lbs. So they are NO WHERE close those numbers you gave. To give some perspective, the wheel lug bolts are torqued to 88 foot-lbs.

You can try to tighten those bolts just a bit more. But in my experience it may at best stop the leak temporarily, and soon you still will have leaks again.
