Another 335d to 440i upgrade....

Hi guys

I've been looking at a new 440i GC and I've now come to the decision that I want to go ahead and place an order. My question is should I wait until the facelift model is released and does anybody know when that will be?

I'm keen to hear from anyone that's placed an order either pre-or post facelift and to hear your thoughts.

I'm also looking at colour combinations and I've got it down to mineral grey metallic with ivory white or mineral grey metallic with saddle brown. Any thoughts here would be great and if anyone has any pictures of saddle brown interior I'd love to see them.

Been to a few dealers to try and see saddle brown in the flesh but no joy as yet.

The specification Ive pretty much decided on is as follows:

Exterior
19" M Double Spoke Style 442 M Alloy Wheels
Mineral Grey Metallic

Overall
Adaptive M Sport Suspension
M Sport Braking System
Run-Flat Tyres
M Sport Plus Package
Sunroof
Xenon Headlights with High-beam Assistant
M Steering Wheel
Sunroof
Comfort pack

Tech
iDrive 5.0
Head Up Display with speed limit
Reversing Assist Camera & Surround-view & Park Distance Control
Electric Folding Exterior Mirrors with Auto Dimming
Loudspeaker System

Interior
Ivory White or saddle brown Dakota Leather
Front Lumbar Support / Electric Front Seats With Driver Memory / Heated Front Seats
Heated steering wheel

Maybes (prob nots)
Comfort Access
Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging / WiFi hotspot preparation

if anybody has any recommendations on what I should/shouldn't choose on the GC then I also be keen to hear from them.

I do think that this spec and car is pretty good and coming from an F30 335D I believe that the 440i engine will be superior although I'm probably going to be kissing goodbye to such good MPG.

I've just driven to work and it was 70 miles and my mpg was 50 mpg!!

I guess I could kiss those days goodbye now anyhow looking to place the order so keen to hear your feedback cheers guys.

Wag

Mmm. Lovely spec. I chose Saddle Brown and am delighted with it. Makes the cabin much lighter.

Don't think there's much to add to that spec, if anything at all. It'll be lovely.

Saddle brown definitely goes well with Mineral Grey. The Mrs ordered a 3er in that combination but we ended up cancelling the order. Not sure I'd personally have it but it's a colour I can appreciate. The Ivory would be my choice. Love the grey and white combo. Don't understand why they only do Ivory in the GC and not the Coupe?

Comfort Access would be good but not essential IMO.

Sounds like a great upgrade

Your spec is very similar to my 440i GC, good call on surround view though - it's one of my few spec regrets.

I've got the the lane change warning system, which I do find really useful in monitoring the blind spot when merging. One of those things that you can easily live without, but it's a useful and reassuring tool once you get used to it.

I went Carbon black with oyster, MG was the other colour I thought hard about. Personally, I think that would look spot on with saddle.

Sure, you'll lose a few MPG, but it won't kill you. On a 70 mile run it will easily exceed get around 40mpg. Urban stop-start traffic is what kills the MPG (down to a still reasonable mid-20s), but in that case you're doing so few miles that MPG ceases to matter.

I looked at all the non-black colour combos; white was out with a small child which left no option, really. I'm delighted with it and think it goes best with EB. Horses for courses.

Nice upgrade, having just gone the same way as you 335d -> 440i. I don't think that the current deals will be around by the time the lci comes out and let's be honest is there that much of a difference? Not in my eyes.

Can't help with the colour choices I have gone Tanzanite blue with Oyster Dakota.

Can't wait to see the pics !

I like saddle brown, I don't know why so many people don't! Although I would have changed the EB trim finisher!?

Likewise, saddle brown looks great I think and is a good match with EB paint. Pictures often don't do justice to how the colours really look (my CB/oyster doesn't look anything like accurate in any of my pics).

I've the F32 440i B58 (ex-demo so didn't choose the spec) great things, engine!!, must haves, Heads up display, 19` wheels, upgraded stereo, I'd add the storage pack as in cabin can see where it should be, M Brakes as standard surely? Not sure about cream interior my came with Coral which I wasn't sure about at first but now like.

2 sunroofs a bit OTT though.

Great spec car, personally I think either Ivory or Saddle brown would work well with Mineral grey. The grey exterior and saddle brown interior has been a favourite with Ferrari and Aston for years so it would look great for sure. Just personal choice really.

As for the LCI upgrade it's not really a massive overhaul, better rear lights but worse headlights seems to be about the jist of it. I'd rather be able to see where I am going better personally although I love the new rear LED lights, easy to retro fit to a pre-facelift model if it bothered you though.

Head Up Display with speed limit

Ivory White or saddle brown Dakota Leather
[/QUOTE
I found the speed limit display very unreliable on my previous car and didn't bother with it this time.

I think grey with ivory goes very well but saddle brown looks pretty good too:

I find it a great shame you can't choose the lower dash colour when you go coral (or other) leather. It's not like they don't have a black one for e.g.!!

Great choice OP - You'll love it.

I think Saddle Brown and MG will be a lovely combo

As for options, at this time of year my main 3 are:

Heated steering wheel (used every day since October).
Surround View (I use this far more than I thought I would. Absolute must have for me).
Comfort access (never get dirty hands again opening the boot).

4th would be HUD, but I'd take the first 3 over HUD every day of the week.

Nice to see another member joining the x40i fold

Options list looks good. Another vote for comfort access here

Unless you drive a lot at night down country lanes I wouldn't bother with Adaptive lights or HBA. Small money but could be spent elsewhere in my opinion.

EBT is a must for me as I regularly carry two phones and use the text in car (on screen) function daily. I know you can code it but for the small outlay is saves any messing.
You also get 4g with EBT which make the whole "online" bit quicker.

+1 on the saddle brown, I have it on my current car, go for it! Personally I think it pairs best with dark or wood trims more than alu and/or the EB trim, but either way it's a class act.

Spec sounds great and MG with Saddle Brown will look superb. Saddle brown is the colour I would probably choose next time around, I've got Coral currently, but was a toss up with saddle at the time.

I agree, if you go saddle brown the wood trims and in particular the fine line anthracite at only £100 looks much nicer than aluminium or hexagon trim. Especially the door handle part against the saddle brown, just different tones of brown, very classy look. Saddle brown can look a bit orange in digital pictures, I think this picture is a more accurate representation of the colour.
