Plastic trim over headlight missing

Hello

Just noticed this plastic trim piece that goes over my passenger headlight is missing. Just wondering what it is and if it serves any function to need to get it replaced? The first pic is the drivers side with the trim while the second is the one that's missing

Pretty sure its to prevent dust and debris getting into the engine bay
