Hi guys. So my current exhaust modification is an MPE (backbox only)
Personally i didnt notice a big difference from standard. Ive seen all these 140i have loud burble and pops with just MPE.

So I want something that will give me a deeper and throatier sound and also the burbles when i rev.
I dont want to have to remap it because of what i want. Whats are the options for me?

Does any one know where can I find midpipes? Don't want to cut into the OEM pipe.

I'd go catless DP. Add a bit of sound with the functionality of more power and better spool. Then if you want more noise you could always start removing the resonators....one at a time to make sure you don't overshoot your desired Db level.

I just got an Evolution Racewerks Downpipe, and I'm curious; won't I get a catalytic efficiency fault from the post cat sensor after install and driving?

Thanks,Will do Mike. About an hour ago I put 3.5 Gallons of E-85 in the tank, and filled the rest up with 91. Put the JB4 into Map 2 for the first time as I understood you could put it in Map 2 with E-85 for higher turbo boost. Right after leaving the gas station I got the drivetrain malfunction warning, and the acceleration was super sluggish... Turned car off, fired it back up, no more warning, so I put it back in Map 1 and it drove just fine. Can anyone explain why the 340i didn't seem to like Map 2?

You should not be using E85 with the B58 engine

Hey guys,

Been plugging away on the B58 E85 tuning and have some information to share.

First the good news. With sufficient octane the turbo hardware has plenty of room for more power. I turned boost up and was able to get around 440whp out of the car 100% stock on E40 with a much too lean AFR. I suspect the factory turbo with just a high flow intake added will ultimately support around 460-475whp.

Now the bad news. It looks as if BMW has placed an IPW fuel limiter in to the DME firmware. This could be an attempt to hinder flash tuners or could simply be to avoid some sort of an injector or fuel system flow limit we don't know about yet. On previous models we've altered the DME's fuel pressure signal as a back door to to raise IPW. On this model when altering the fuel pressure the DME responds by lowering it's load target proportionally to keep IPW consistent.

We can work around it fairly easily with a CANbus JB4 by dynamically altering the load back to the DME to be within its new lower range and add dutycycle to bring boost up. While we get the boost curve we want the IPW is fixed so AFR leans out.

What this means is that pump gas JB4 tuning is no problem. Race gas only tuning may get a bit sketchy at higher power levels. Maybe around 400whp. And E85 tuning is for the most part a no-go at least for now.

We're likely going to have to turn to something external like meth or TBI to further extend the fueling range.

I've read about S55 having similar issues, that were resolved by gapping the spark plugs, do you think that would benefit the situation with my B58?

If you are referring to the fueling issue copied from Terry above. Gapping the plugs won't do anything to help fueling and injector pulse width.

As above E85 not a great idea on these motors for now as there is a full limiter built into the logic.
