How long will my turbos last?
I've been reading about waste gate rattle and it's a little concerning.
My car only has 41K miles on it so far and I have no turbo problems yet (knock on wood). It sounds like a design issue to me. So how long will my turbos last before they start rattling and losing boost. |

Depends on how you treat them(oil changes , warm up before thrashing
amount and duration of thrashing , if you have a tune, amount of boost) and the luck of the draw. But almost any turbo car will require new turbos's once in the cars lifetime. Read the Mike Miller old school schedule. google Mike Miller BMW. |

If you take care of scheduled maintenance (not BMW schedule but common sense ~5k oil, etc) and get rid of some known trouble items ahead of time you should be fine for 50k+.
My turbos are in the process of shitting the bed @ 107k, they're factory oem and I got the car with 93 and began modding and bashing on it right away... but always knowing it was going to happen sooner rather than later and having the coveted ~$5,000 set aside for new/upgraded turbos when they did. You're covered on CPO for quite some time still being that low I'd imagine. Look into what you can get covered now from recalls and see what you're eligible for in regards to extended warranties, but with the $5k set aside and preventative work, you've got little to worry about barring some catastrophic, one off failure.

I currently don't have any sort of warranty on it though I think I will once the mileage get above 70K. I heard Route 66 extended warranty is pretty good. |

Route 66 is definitely a great choice and I've heard very few complaints about it when I did a little research on it myself.
As far as CPO goes - CPO is a coverage on the car - so it could have been enabled by a previous sale. Any vehicle made from 2014 on has to be sold by BMW to retain CPO (except certain private sale conditions, read the damn fine print ) - anything prior to that keeps it. Have your local dealership/indy or a helpful forum member run your vin and see if your car has it. I bought my car at a Ford dealership and the local BMW honored my CPO right away without question.

Actually, I didn't even know about mine until I cracked open my owners manual and saw the sticker from the dealership that enacted the CPO warranty, showing the dates it was good until.

I think the indy dealer told me that the manufacturer warranty had expired. They're usually only good for 5 years or less in some cases. I don't know if that's different than CPO but the original BMW warranty on the car is 100% expired.

CPO from that era only transferred with private party sales. A dealer sale voided it.
