One month from order to delivery. Cause for worry?

So I have to tell you this for my own piece of mind.

Ordered a new, factory order 330D Msport auto xdrive on 29th October (this year I mean). Right said the dealer you'll get it without fail before 19th December. Haha said I cos' in my heart of hearts I knew they were wrong with their prediction.

Well they were!! Its being delivered to the dealer on Monday ( the 28th November) and will be with me on the 29th (Tuesday).

Now I know there'll be people reading this who may think I have should be laughing sandbags but I have nagging doubts.

So said to the salesman. It will have full quality control won't it. Such as a steering wheel and a bit of an engine. He took this seriously fortunately . Of course he said, BMW do full standard checks on all their vehicles.

I accept I got a build slot at a moments notice as the dealer changed a stock order and that the car probably has come into North Shields a hop and jump from the dealer.

However, there's a serious point here because I've never heard of a one month order to delivery. Has anyone else heard of this an achievable timescale or should I be concerned ? Experiences gratefully received by a concerned TT.

If the dealer had a build slot that could be allocated to your order then I guess it is possible.

The only spare build slot our dealer had was for an individual build and could not be changed to suit our non-individual specification, consequently we had to wait the full 3 months for delivery from time of order.

Use the VIN checker to get a rough idea of when your car was assembled in Munich.

Think you've been lucky. I ordered my 440i Gran Coupe on the same day as you (29/10) and expect delivery in mid Jan. Still not got a confirmed build date yet

once a car goes into build then its unbelievably quick to delivery, so if there was a slot just about to go into build then that timescale is perfectly normal. before that its just a load of waiting in the system.

So you're thinking that because your car has arrived early that it's not been screwed together properly?

Ok...........

I had a similar delivery time for a February 2014. all depends whether dealer has unallocated stock. My car has had no issues from that sort of production timing.

had my 335i in about 5 weeks end to end. This was back in 2014 when there was performance brakes shortage as well for 335i

all depends on slots ,cancellations and similar to your order cars being redirected. If you dealer needs a target or being nice they can do weird things

My wife's Mini was a factory order and took a similar amount of time, possibly even quicker...

The dealer had a stock car on order and just made changes to the spec to her requirements.

Nothing to worry about.

Difficult post to read and to understand the point itself. You are thinking it went a different route through production than others? Or perhaps it's one that fell off the back of a lorry?

You should have just posted about how happy you are that you got your car so quickly!

Not necessarily quick to deliver. My car was built in the beginning of Feb but delivered 3 weeks later.

Looks like you jumped on a dealers build slot.
I had similar when i ordered a 435d. Ordered 20 October, it was built 27 October and at the dealers on 5 November - collected on 9 November. So 20 days from order to delivery in total.

Car will be fine - stop worrying

I drove my car off the forecourt 18 days after signing the order. It went into production 5 days after ordering, and then the onward transport was perfectly aligned.

Mine was a month exactly. The dealer told me they had a build slot when I ordered. It would have been a stock car for them otherwise. As long as it is to your spec you have nothing to worry about.

As others have said sounds like you just hit lucky, however for your own piece of mind, get the vin and it will give you build date.

Thanks fellow Geordie - yes, that would seem very prudent.

I got my F06 within 6 weeks of ordering it after being told I would not get it for three to four months.

The dealer told me he had a customer cancel an order so took the opportunity to nick the build slot for me, hence why I got the car so quick.

It may be one they've located sat in a showroom somewhere, or one that a customer has rejected - for whatever reason.
