help!-why did my 330i come with continental contipro SSR tires?

I just got my non-sport 330i yesterday. I thought
Bridgestone's were standard. Also, I looked
up the tire on tire rack and this is not even
an all season tire. It is a max performance summer tire.
The tread will wear really quickly, and i dont want to
have to replace them. Should I be concerned or
did BMW change tire companys?

Not really. You could even consider it as a bonus. I got the ContiSport Contact2 SSRs on my Euro 325i. I can't compare them with the other brands that come standard on the E90 but what I CAN tell you is that the treadwear index on the Conti's is 240 compared to all the other brand's 140. So in theory they should last much longer before they need replacing.

Anyone else got some input on how the Conti's stack up against the other brands on the E90?

I would be concerned only if you plan to drive the car year-round without changing tires/wheels. But since you got an RWD car, I assume you were planning to change wheels/tires.

You can't really compare one tire brand's tread wear rating with another brand's. Each manufacturer uses different criteria to determine their tread wear rating, so you can compare different tires made by the same company, but not between companies.

Tread wear ratings are meaningless when comparing brands, as Hotan Braskey said. The answer to your question is yes. Your guvment is here to hep you.

1.) BMW has various tire suppliers and does not guarantee a brand

2.) The only Contipro tires I see on TireRack and Conti´s site are ContiproContact AS tires. Nothing even similar to ,,Contripro`` shows up under summer tires. Are you sure that´s what you got?

Oh okay I think i got confused. I went to 06 330i and clicked base model OE tires:

I assumed those were mine cause mine have the SSR also.
But then I went to check my car and mine say contipro
and these say contisport. The SSR part and tirerack listing them
under standard OE equipment confused me. Is this an error on tirerack's part? Because I dont see my conti pro under OE equipment. Someone might go to tire rack and mistakingly order these max performance summer tires thinking they were the base standard Continentals. Either way, I did some research and overall the continentals seem to be rated a lot higher than the bridgestone's so im happy.

He is correct, also the suppliers are on sight at the assembly plants, your vehicle gets what ever manufacturer has available, but the non-SP 3-series all get all-season tires (if they say M&S on the outer side wall, they are all-season tires) BMW currently uses RFT's from Bridgestone,Pirelli,Michelin,Dunlop and Continental.

Well yes something is wrong with Tirerack´s page because the 330i does not have 17" summer tires as an option. Summer/high perf. tires for the 330i are 18" to begin with and I believe those are usually Bridgestone´s (which are quite good and highly rated).

Outside the USA the 330i can get 17" max performance summer tires by Michelin, Bridgestone or Pirelli from the factory

The SSR on the Continental means its a runflat tire

SSR stands for "Self-Supporting Runflat"

All E90 factories get tires from Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental and Pirelli.
The 1 Series has started getting Goodyear runflats, do the E90 may aswell one day.

USA cars used to mainly get Brisgestone All Season tires, but seems you now get the new Continetal aswell ( they never made that continental all season tire before in runflat for BMW)

As far as I know, the RFT all-season Bridgestone Turanza EL42's that came with non-SP RWD models and all AWD models basically sucked. The 6 reviews on TireRack were all from E90 owners and they all hated the tires.

Looks like these SSR ContiPro's are new to the E90; at least nobody's put up a review for them on TireRack. Maybe they'll be better than the Bridgestones.
