So let's say my poor Stella got totaled today by some mope running a red light.
I have a couple NICE upgrade options at my local dealer: 2008 M3 coupe, interlagos blue on black. MT. 95,000 kms $37,710 (Canadian dollars) Or 2013 335i x-drive (much needed in Canada), mineral grey on black. MT. 46,000 kms M-sport package $39,910 Criteria makes the 335 the best choice, but I guarantee I'd have more fun in the M3. What say you? |

If I was in canada I'd have a cheap old 4x4 Jeep Grand Cherokee as my snow day car with michelin LTX AT tires or similar so i could also use it for hauling, woods, etc. What I did when I lived in the northeast. 1998 I had a 1995 GC limited with v8, 4x4, 120k miles, and a 1992 corvette convertible. Worked out great.

As much fun as the M3 would be, if this is going to be your daily and only car, I'd go with the 335XI.
It's newer and has less miles which in the long run is more beneficial. |

My vote is m3 and get a 2004 GC 4x4 v8 for winter. Way more useful and way better in snow.

335xi. M3 is nice but not for where you live. Unless you have a winter car.

Get the M3 and buy a nice set of winter tires and wheels to swap out when things get nasty. No brainer. Do you want to die knowing u had a chance to own the last/only V8 BMW M3 but decided to play it safe instead??

Hey guys, to be honest winter is not that brutal as many of you imagine it is - at least not in cities where roads are maintained clean, tho it's true in Alberta it's not always the case
Ok, first of all, whatever comes after this is just my opinion, very biased opinion lol Dude, you gotta be joking not taking M3 - have you gone completely mad? Take it bro - it's the only car worth driving in the whole BMW brand man... Ok, now I vented my thoughts and voice of reason is saying: nah, dude, 335xi makes more sense in Canada and it's newer and less miles. You'll get a lot of possibilities to increase the boost power with 335 and xi will really help with that take off traction - so it will compensate for M3 loss, so just take 335xi P.S. but I know you'll have regrets in one of those dark cold Canadian nights making you lose your sleep and replay again and again in your memory the moment when you could have taken M3 |

Good arguments from both sides... The thing is the 335 is much more practical. That said, practicality is mostly out the window at this point with both of these cars..
(Could just get a low mileage RAV4 right?) So if practicality is out the window, why not just take it all the way? Haha I'll be test driving each next week (along with one or two more 'responsible' choices. Thing that puts me off is the generally poor reviews of the handling and steering dynamics of the F30... I've read that f30s with m sport are a big improvement though. I guess I'll find out! |

The M3 is cheaper... Plus in 5 years the M3 will still be worth more than the 335i. On the other hand the 335i will make more power if you want it to and is a newer car. I haven't looked into the V8's reliability but I would think it's better being that it's NA, but that's just speculation. Alternatively look around more, perhaps theres another manual M3 with less miles for the same price. It might also be worth expanding your search radius, paying $1000 to travel to/have something shipped a few hundred miles could get you a much better car.

I'm not going to mod the car, not going to track the car, simply enjoy it as is minus perhaps suspension and wheels... 335 is the logical choice and in all likelihood what I will do (depending on insurance payout)...
We'll see when I go for a test drive. |

Neither. Find a nice low-mileage 2010 e92 with the n54. Will save loads of money. Use the extra money to get a winter beater and do some mods on the e92. Will still come out 10k ahead.

Sorry, off topic question: how did you proved you were not at fault - was it hard dealing with insurance? How long to wait till money will be paid out? Is the car totaled or it is repairable? Thanks
