Passenger side mirror keeps on adjusting itself !!
At least 3 times since I purchased the car 2 months ago, I noticed that the passenger side mirror has moved since I parked it.
I don't know when it adjusts itself but shortly after the starting the car, I'll notice that the side mirror was not where I left it before I parked it. May be it moves itself during the night ??? Spooky. Any ideas on what's going on? BTW, When I notice that the passenger side mirror has adjusted itself, it's always pointing down. Last edited by lordbmw; 11-23-2016 at 04:24 PM.. |

it could be the memory settings, there are 3 buttons on the seat next to the seat adjust buttons. the top one is for setting the memory. adjust your seat and mirrors to where you want them and the press the top button, it should light up I think. then press 1 of the other two buttons. the middle one will be for memory 1 and the bottom for memory 2. the passenger mirror will also adjust down when you go into reverse so you can see the curb if you are parking next to one. it should go back up when you switch out of reverse.

Yeah it could be getting stuck. you can prevent it from tilting in reverse by moving the switch to change which mirror you adjust to the right

Thanks. I need to do more diagnosis on what's going on. I suspect it has something do with this reversing feature.

I had the same problem fixed under warranty a number of years ago. There was some sort of faulty seal with the wiring that was causing the mirror to move. Water was getting in or something like that. The dealership ended up replacing the mirror motor.

The problem apparently is that sometimes it does not return to normal. I haven't been able to replicate it. I tried like 10 times so I'll just keep on eye on it for now. |

Happened on mine and is apparently a common problem - when my car was under warranty they just replaced the mirror motor. it still does it now and then but way less than before, like its an electrical gremlin. I just hit the memory button to put it back if it does get stuck and I don't worry about it.

it pointing down in reverse is perfectly normal, the mirror does that so you can check how close you are to the curb while reversing. however, it should go back up once you take the car out of reverse. sounds like some sort of electrical issue/glitch to me

I think rarely (1/50 times) it will fail to go back up. If I see this again, I'll try cleaning the motor connections as mentioned in this thread.

I have an'06 that does the same crap, what a pain in the balls. Don't fight it, just disconnect, unless you use them often. I don't so...

After 3 years my driver side mirror started to readjust on its own again. I also had the rust stain creeping onto both mirrors. Used the opportunity to clean the plugs and replace with the Euro blind spot mirrors. I'm riding high again!

My mirror did this (driver side) for a few weeks. Easy fix though. Take it apart and disconnect the wire that supplies power to the mirror. Clean it and blow it out. Should be fixed. Look into it a little more if you like, its been a while since i fixed mine.
