is going up one tire size worth it?

I currently have stock style 162 wheels, with 225/255 nitto nt555 g2's. They're decent summer tires, and the rears are at like half life, the fronts still have 2/3 tread. Considering selling them off, to fit some 235/265. However after doing the math, I'll get maybe half an inch more width. Is this going to make a difference in traction (mostly what I'm looking for, with full bolt ons and e40) or handling in a noticeable way, with an equal summer tire?

I think it's more about the brand of tire than the size. Yes, going up a size will help because you have more rubber on the road, but switching to a Michelin PSS will work even better. If you are FBO I would suggest Michelin because they are the summer tire for this car as you can tell by all the members that run them.

I'd rather buy two full sets of a different brand of summer tire (my nittos for example, they're definitely not cheap Chinese crap, and have been a great did summer tire) than spend almost a G on one set of PSS.. That's just me though. I could buy some cheap wheels, and throw 275-295 on the back and 245-255 on the front for the price of some PSS no tires are that good

Pretty sure you can't/shouldn't fit a wider tire than 255 on those rims. My experience with Nittos was there were great when I first got them, but horrible wet traction, horrible traction below 60F and turned to ice skates below half tread. I replaced mine with same size Bridgestone RE71R and was amazed at the improvement. With proper tire psi I can hook second at 18psi, feel confident in the rain and still have reasonable traction down to 45F. They are more than the Nittos, but so far treadwear is also way better so they should last longer.

235 on the front (8) is no issue. 265 is a bit too large for 8.5, but I know plenty of people running that combo that I auto-x with. Are you talking the old 555's or the g2's? The g2's are miles better than the old and 555's for street use

Guess I'm not sure. Got them in May 2015, not sure when the G2s came out.
