Fitted non RFT winters to my F36 and...
So finally fitted my non RFTs winter setup to my F36 today. Wow, what a huge difference!
I had the same 400M wheels and Nokian winters for my F30 and the difference was hardly noticeable, but in the F36 it's like night and day. I have the Bridgestone's on my normal 19" summer setup. In comparison the summers crash around and find every hole and bump, while the Nokians/400Ms are substantially smoother and quieter. I realise some of the difference will be because of the 19" and 18" wheels but anyone else put on winters on a new-ish F36 and notice the same?

Well I recently put my 18" RF Winters on from 19" RF Summers and it doesn't feel drastically different. I do have adaptive btw.
Would like to try Non RF to see what they are like as when these wear out I'll be purchasing non Run Flat, hateful things. As has been said before I wish BMW would give you the choice when building your spec on a car. |

I must admit after the brief drive home I feel the difference which I didn't before in my F30. When the time comes to swap out the summers I will be very tempted with the non RFTs.

Can't agree more, ditched the summer run flat Bridgestones for 19" Nokian winters and all I can say is the difference is Like night and day, for once I can hear the engine.

I wasn't going to comment just yet as I am only a few days in, but... I removed the Bridgestone runflats from my F30 on Saturday, and replaced with Conti Sport Contact 6 all round.
It's SO much smoother. Less noisy. Less crashy. In fact not crashy at all. Steering sharper, braking sharper. Even on wet leafy pull-aways traction is there. I wasn't going to gush until I'd got a few weeks under my belt, but even just a few days in, I wish I'd got rid of the run flats on day 2 of ownership... it's like driving a proper car again, to be totally honest. |

Are you guys just relying on BMW Assist or some goop if you get a flat? Most pro tyre fitters loathe the goop not just because of the mess but they all seem to insist it simply doesn't work.

You need to buy one of these to go along with your compressor and gunk. Repairs tyres reliably...

Runflat tyres: Not as nice to live with, expensive, bad for handling, most garages anti-repair. But good if you happen to have a puncture at 100mph or 100 miles from home and the garages are closed for Christmas. Normal tyres: Better to live with, more cost effective, good handling. Have a puncture, can be repaired without hesitation. Blow out at 100mph - ok, maybe you'll die. I can't quite get this across how I mean it. I'll try again: With TMPS as a warning system and us all having 87 different breakdown cover options (bank, credit card, etc etc), is it really worth living with runflats? |

Slime often doesn't work. With these you remove the nail, ream out the hole and insert a piece of "sticky string". Probably easier than getting slime into a tyre.

Changed over from 403M's to a set of 17" Goodyear Ultra Grip RFT winters at the weekend, and the difference in ride quality is just astonishing. Less noisy, less crashy and grip levels on a greasy, freezing off-camber roundabout I use every day is transformed. Downside is no TPMS so I have to keep an eye on pressures "old skool" and there's the annoying TMPS warning/reset on startup, but I can live with that.
I'm also a lot less paranoid about kerbs.... |
