Battery dead or parasitic power drain or alternator?

Been getting the dreaded increased battery discharge warning for a while now, and car failed to start last week, had to jump it, drove to dinner, then drove home no problem. The next day, same thing happened. Seems that letting the car sit for an hour or two for dinner is okay, but overnight it looses enough charge that it won't start.

I bought the Ctek MUS4.3 to charge/recondition the battery and ran it through the full cycle on Friday night. Yesterday car started fine, drove about 50 miles parked it for about 10 hours then went out for dinner drove another 15 miles to dinner, parked for 2 hours 15 miles back from dinner and had no trouble. This morning, get in and it won't start again.

Here are the error codes I had today when i tried to start it:

/ 1) 2DED power management, standby current control
// 2) 2D2A differential pressure sensor, suction pipe: adaptation
// 3) 2E8D intelligent battery sensor, signal transmission
// 4) 29CD Misfire, Cyl. 1
// 5) 2DEC power management, battery control
// 6) 2DEB power management, vehicle wiring system control
// 7) 2A38 Valvetronic, actuator: sluggish or open circuit
// 8) 2ACC DME digital motor electronics main relay, switch delay
// 9) 29DB engine roughness, segment time measurment

get your battery tested, most Auto parts store will do it for free. most likely the battery is bad.

your 2011 battery about 5-6 years old, depending upon when it was first put into service...time to get a new one!

Thanks everyone...went to pep boys and they confirmed battery was shot so I replaced it.

Installed the battery car started right up, drove around for about 15 minutes got home parked, restarted the car and got the increased discharge warning again.

Could be that I need to reprogram...went from Lead Acid to AGM and I also need to register. Hopefully that will fix the issue

If you moved from acid to AGM you will need to reprogram the car and register new battery.

With a new battery
  1. you need to 'register' the battery, to tell the power management unit it should change its battery charging to suit a new (rather than old) battery
  2. you MAY need to also 'code' a new battery, when is is not the same Amp-hour capacity and when it is not the same type of battery (flooded vs. AGM) as the one it replaced

Problem solved...was paranoid it may be more than just the battery but once I switched it out and finally figured out how to both code and register it, everything is working perfectly

This seems to be an issue for a lot of people. I've had it twice now. Just had my battery replaced for the second time in 6 months. Surely there must be something causing the batteries to fail?!

Mine was 6 years old so it was understandable. What concerned me was that after physically chaining the battery I was still getting error messages but that was because I didn't reprogram and register the new battery. I know others have had issues replacing the battery without registering, but I thought that just cause the battery to fail faster, not to throw error messages.

I'll reply to this thread if any other issues come up, but hopefully this battery will last another 6 years or more...I'm now using a ctek 4.3 battery tender because I travel for work and sometimes leave the car parked for a week or two at a time
