Your HK is now a Samsung

Announced four days ago: Samsung bought Harman Industries, the parent company of Harman Kardon and a raft of other brands, for $6 billion. Yes, that's with a 'b'. See the AutoBlog story here.

So, now HK's parent company has a parent company.

(Background, and part of the reason I didn't opt for the HK in my car: Harman Industries is known for watering down the brands it acquires, both in terms of quality and reputation. Even its nascent brand, Harman Kardon, wasn't immune. Samsung, of course, has almost no manufacturing background in audio applications. A marriage made in megacorporate heaven!)

Ah, what's to worry? It's not as if Samsung has designed cell phones that overheat, burst into flames, and cause serious burns. Or that the tops of some of its washing machines fly off causing broken bones, injured shoulders, and fall-related injuries.

Oh, wait ...

Oh, wait ...
And I have a Samsung washing machine.

Thankfully, it's a front loader.

Yeah, and in addition to our two Samsung cell phones, we have a Samsung gas range. Talk about playing with fire.

I have to say, though, I actually like Samsung and LG engineering. Good products at a fair price. Too bad LG hasn't done car audio.

... yet.

Hehehe. I also have an LG OLED TV. Blows everything else on the market out of the water. Just no comparison to its picture, and its smart streaming functions are lovely to use. I seriously haven't used my Blu-ray player in several months!

It's what people who appreciate proper picture and sound quality use when they want to watch a movie in their home theaters.

Kind of like driving a BMW instead of a Hyundai
