Garage door closed on my car :(

I park at a garage in downtown La Jolla because on campus parking is crapy and I don't use my car on the week days anyways. Well today I went to drop my car off, and the garage door to the structure malfunctioned and closed on my car. An employee witnessed the event and even they said that the garage closed out of nowhere (it was open for a good minute before I began to pull in and is not on a timer, an employee has to work it with an opener). Anyways I'm thinking the roof has to be repainted, and the antenna got pretty scraped up as well.

UPDATE: The estimate is around $1,200 to take the roof down to bare metal and repaint it. By the time I sent over the estimate, the parking garage had already contacted their department that deals with things of this nature. I was told I will receive a call in the next few days, so overall everything seems like it will work out fine.

I'd have to go on them. Since you have an eyewitness, are they willing to repair it for you?

If not, and you're short on cash, you could always wrap the roof for cheap and no one will be able to tell.

It'll go through their insurance or mine one way or another. My deductible is fairly low, so if I have to pay for it myself I will even though I would rather not. However, they seemed very willing to make it right. And trust me, it was hard to remain calm

Hope you got the employee's name and employee # if he has one. They should cover it and if not you can go the long painful route of taking them to court. Either way good luck and that sucks!

Yeah I see the same employee every weekend when I take my car out. I don't think they will try to fight it (at least I hope not).

Why would you claim it on your insurance and subject yourself to potential rate increases? Only do that if the garage doesn't come through.

I know, their insurance should cover it. I'm not too worried I was basically trying to say I'm getting it fixed one way or another. I already had to put a claim in earlier this year when someone pulled a hit and run on my rear bumper so I'm not looking to put in another claim.

It's on them. You have an eyewitness. You can sue if they're bitching about paying.

Currently getting an estimate and then I'll call them later today. I put up a hard fight, but I'll keep the thread updated.

I hate it when people disrespect other people's property. Especially cars --people don't realize how sensitive paint actually is!

WTF I just found this online.....I did rinse it maybe I better take a better look

Re: someone spilled beer on my car!

I have actually seen what spilled beer than is left on a car too long can do to the paint from my days at Lexus. You will really want to wash it as soon as possible, and if needed, clay. Trust me on this one, it isn't pretty.

That's scary... just got the estimate for my roof, it'll be around $1,200 to take it down to the metal and repaint.... expected to be gone 4 days.

If it's not dented, just wrap it.

I could and then maybe pick up the Performance Exhaust, but then I'll know the damage is there and if I want to sell the car at some point I'll have something to fix.

Depending on how deep those scratches and scuffs are, you'd definitely notice them even with it wrapped btw..

That's what I was thinking. The body shop said they are taking the roof down to bare metal and the repainting.
