automatic gearbox symbol only when in park and engine off

Hi, since yesterday when i put my car into park and remove key, i get the automatic gearbox symbol(gear with exclamtion). However when driving the car i get no symbol ,all 6 gears shift just fine.And if i shut off the engine in neutral it displays no errors.Only if i put her into park and remove key from socket will i get the error(gear with exclamtion). Can anyone help i have searched all over the web , didnt find anyrhing.

i wish i could ,im waiting on shipping for a scanner, is this typical ? i thought transmission errors were while engine on.

No way to know what the problem is without the codes, but it's almost definitely something electrical. There are a number of transmission sensors as well as the shift interlock, etc. After you turn the car off it only lets you remove the key when the transmission is in park, for example, so a problem with that system might cause the transmission light. Scan it and find out, but at least the good news is it sounds like it's not actually a problem with the transmission.

Check the park position sensor. If you ever tangled with the parking solenoid, your sensor flap may be mis-positioned. It would be an easy fix if that's the issue.
