Yellow cog light
Wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. I was driving my 2007 e90 335i and the yellow gear or cog light comes on. This happened to me a few months ago also when I was driving back from New York. I turn the engine off and on again it disappears. This time when I restarted the engine it comes back and check engine light comes on. I bring it home and turn it on again to draw codes and the lights disappear has anyone had this problem? Hopefully my transmission isn't failing car drives perfectly fine except when I was driving in Massachusetts a while ago going down hill I felt like there was hesitation in the transmission when switching gears (AT) like it didn't know what gear to go to or the gears were slipping or something. Other than that time car drives awesome. Been hearing a ticking noise from engine bay but pretty sure that's the serpentine belt which I'm going to replace soon.

The gear light is the transmission. Had a similar problem on a 325xi that I owned for less than a month. Basically Came down to I bought a car with a bad transmission. It would start slipping and that light would come on, the repair was going to cost more than I paid for the car. Luckily the dealer bought the car back. First thing to check is codes, you need a bmw specific code reader for this. It is possible that you could be low on transmission fluid which could mean you may have a leak.

Ok thanks. I can pull bmw codes but the lights dissappeared so I didn't bother. Would they be saved on the ecu? I never noticed slipping except that one time I was driving on this curvy road down a mountain. Hopefully it's just a leak and I can get it fixed without spending too much...

Yeah any codes should still be stored. There are a number of different errors that all cause that light, look at this list: https://wiki.bentleypublishers.com/d...90+E91+E92+E93
Did the transmission go into failsafe mode when it happened? You'll definitely feel it...you can hardly accelerate when it happens. |

It's the yellow gear with the exclamation symbol usually indicates a transmission issue..
So I tried pulling codes but I had problems with my voltage regulator not too long ago and the Ecu still had those codes saved. so I cleared them and the lights haven't come back. Hopefully it was nothing. Car feels fine to me |
