Highest mileage N54/N55?
Whats the highest mileage N54/n55 out there? I know generally people seem to think that these cars are unreliable after 100k miles. So how many miles are you guys at and what issues have you ran into?

After 100k, your gonna be putting some money into it. Best thing would be to buy parts from a company like FCP Euro, that has a lifetime warranty on their parts. Long term, if you intend on keeping the car 250k and beyond you'll be ahead. N54's are notorious for oil leaks in : 1) OFHG 2) VCG 3) OPG 4) Rear Main Seal You have to do a complete fluid swap at 100k and in my opinion every 50k after that. Coils, belts & pulleys and PVC valve will need to be replaced at 100k Another thing an e90 will need to be maintained is the suspension, control arms and some bushings. All will be shot be 100k no matter how well maintaining your roads are. You might get 125-30 out of various bushings and control arms but 125-130 is pushing it. Turbo chargers will need to be replaced or refurbished by 150k. Another thing, you should walnut blast the intake valves every 36k. I have done everything above and my car runs tip top right now. No oil leaks and I get 30 miles to the gallon on the HWY doing 77-80 mph. An e90 is a great car, but like any car you have to maintain it. BMW's need to be maintained to the T, and if they are you'll really enjoy lots of miles or great driving. BMW's are not Honda Civics where all you do is change the oil and drive. |
