Slow Rev in Neutral

Hi guys,

I have a 6MT 335i and I noticed that when I put the car in neutral and rev, it is a hell of a lot slower to climb than putting it in gear with the clutch in then revving. Just wondering if anyone else noticed this.

I belive (correct me if im wrong)

Clutch pressed in = clutch disk disengaged from pressure plate (Less rotational mass)
Neutral = Gearbox engaged but gearbox not engaged to driveshaft, more mechanical drag than if clutch is depressed

That's why a light weight single mass flywheel will rev faster than our factory dual mass flywheel

Thats what I figured but I've never noticed that on any other manual, my brother's e39 m5 revs the same in neutral and in gear. It makes double clutching impossible, not that theres any point.

Glad to know its normal, i didnt notice it on my last 335i MT but it was probably there, time for a lightweight flywheel.
