2008 320i no power at fuel pump
Hi guys my girl has a jdm E90 320i I believe is the correct model, but it just wouldn't go one morning, like it would start idle for a second then die like it had no fuel pressure and it turns out that's exactly what it was, I remove the rear seat try start it and couldn't hear fuel pump going so I hooked a 12v battery directly to the pump and it started perfectly with no faults, so I test to see if there is any power coming from the wires that are meant to go to fuel pump and there is nothing there at all, I have read there should be 10v at startup, so I take to the shop and they plug computer in and tell me there is no issue with the system and that your fuel pump is faulty, this doesn't make any sense as I can get the fuel pump to go but have no power, I have read they possibly have a fuel pump module with a relay but I cannot find this in the car for the life of me, I'm pulling my hair out, has anyone had this kind of problem before? Am I on the right track?
Please help! |

No idea what the problem is, but theres a fuel pump module under the right side rear passenger side bolster.

Yes I have had that out and it just holds the fuel pump and the sensor for the fuel gauge, the fuel gauge works fine and also the pump. (When I give it power directly from battery)

No, this is an electronic module that is separate from the fuel pump and controls the fuel pump.
It's called the EKP module and is located under the right rear side bolster. The piece between the seat back and the door panel where the seat belt lays on when it's not buckled.

Interesting. Maybe the 4 cylinders don't have it?

Have you checked the fuse for the fuel pump? Fuse panel is behind the glove box on a LHD car, not sure if it's the same for RHD.

Did you find out what the problem was ? I am having the same problem . Would be most grateful if you could assist . I have resolved to a relay switch since my mechanic can’t seem to figure out what the problem is.

"I am having the same problem" is probably the most over-used phrase found on this forum, and is seldom accurate, since the same symptoms (such as car won't start or won't keep running) can be caused by MANY different faults. I would suggest always starting a NEW thread listing YOUR specific vehicle information, symptoms & issues, rather than assuming that whatever caused someone else's issues is the cause of your (undefined ;-) issues. Particularly when it's been more than 2 years since we last heard from OP (10/19/16) in this thread, and he never reported what his vehicle's Fault was. Depending upon your model and "Market Country" your fuel pump may be powered (1) via a "Fuel Pump Module (EKP), or (2) via a relay. Here are two possible circuits (depending upon your model -- see below): (1) Electronic Module EKP: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...module/vFnKcli (2) Relay K96: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...l-pump/vdZNLrC AFAIK, the 320i was NOT sold in the US, so I (and probably most others in US) are NOT familiar with that engine, or its supporting fuel system. If you would like specific help, please provide: a) Engine designation (e.g. N46); b) Month/Year of manufacture/build c) last 7 characters of VIN d) do you/your mechanic have BMW-specific software such as INPA/ISTA? Equipment, fuse layout & designations, relays, modules, etc. varied based upon that information, so we can't help without it. If you would prefer to do your own research, enter the last 7 characters of your VIN in the following TIS link and see what you can find: https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ Please let us know what you find, George |
