F-type or M6
The folks are in the market for a new weekend car. She currently has a E89 Z4 and he has a F01 Alpina B6. Price range is ~$60k. Figure 2013 is probably the oldest they'd go on a car and under 45,000 miles.
They think they really want a used F-Type S while I am urging them to consider a used F13 M6. I just think top tier bimmers are the optimal secondary buyers car because they depreciate over 50% in two years lol. A $100+ 2014 M6 coupe is now like $60k while a two year old $80k F-Type is $60k. Not to mention the performance gap between the M and the S model... So first off, what are your guys' thoughts/have you heard anything negative about either. And also, is there any other options I should be suggesting (besides the M4 or american muscle)?

I'd stay away from jag. I have a few customers tell me how quick they start to fall apart. used m6 can be had for a very good price, but they cost a ton on the back end. could probably get a nice c7 in their range. the m6 will definitely be the most luxury and best quality out of all the cars in that price range.

F-type
M6 is a two door version of that B6. Sounds like your parents could care less if it falls apart and they want a fun car. Plus those F-type noises and looks. Car is a homerun. The M6 is great in a lot of respects but it just doesn't have near the presence or design relevance that the jag does. The jag has a life of its own. The M6 is the next M6, which is nice but it's like comparing the E9 bmw chassis to the classic E-type. One is the girl that you should marry and the other is the one wars are fought over. If you are the type to embrace the attention the jag will bring than simply no other car compares for the money. Weekend cars are statements. The jag does that. The M6 is a REALLY nice dd |

M6, the F-type is actually getting 4.0 L version of the S63 engine. People say the jag sounds better, and they may be right, but when they say it has more soul, thats just plain wrong. The M6 is an absolute animal, yes the jag may sound better, but the M6 makes more power, more torque, revs higher, is more fuel efficient and just a far better engineered motor with a lot of after market headroom (Which I doubt your parents care for but who knows.) The sheer engineering behind the M6 is would be the deal breaker for me, but to each their own.
