Clutch

I have a E90 330i Petrol.

The clutch is starting to go. Does this model have a flywheel.

If so does it have to replaced by default as well ?

Thanks

All internal combustion engines in street cars have flywheels. The one in the E90 N2 is a dual mass flywheel. They tend to break at higher mileages. Mine broke around 240,000 miles. If you are opening up the drivetrain to replace the clutch you might as well replace the flywheel since it may break later on. The flywheel is an extra $500 USD and an extra 1/2 hour of labor time.

Anyone have long term experience with this kit? Heavily considering it when I do my clutch (just to preemptively get any possible issues out of the way)

Make sure you order a new bearing sleeve for the throwout bearing. That kit does not include it.

Ive been trying to figure out if the Valeo SMF conversion kit would work with my 2006 330i - all the listing list a 328, but not the 330i.

However, this shows the 330i listed:

http://store.uucmotorwerks.com/valeo...f10-p1726.aspx

Has anyone used this kit on an e90 330i? I'm at 150k miles so will be needing a clutch at some point soon.

Thanks in advance!
Kevin

I'm 99% sure it's work no issues. Really the only difference between E90 328 and 330 are that the 330 has the 3 stage intake and tune to go with it. No difference in actual engine/trans.

Thanks for this - the only other difference I've found (driveline at least) is that the 330i clutch is 240mm while the 328 is 228mm - but it looks like the flywheel is the same, at least for some listings.

So, will contact valeo and see what they say. If someone has used the SMF flywheel on a 330i, let us know, please.

Thanks,
Kevin

OP, I looked on realOEM.com. It shows the 330i transmission is not used for any other E90 model or model year other than the 2006 330i (USA). If the 330i transmission were used in the 328i, RealOEM.com would cross reference it. I know the 2006 325i trans is different than the 2006 330i.

Likewise for the clutch. RealOEM.com shows that the 330i clutch is only used in the 330i. The 325i and 328i use the same clutch. The P/Ns and sizes are:

330i: 21207567626 240MM

238i: 21207587368 228MM

So the 328i clutch is about a 1/2 inch smaller. But Valeo lists the 330i for its kit. All that matters is if the splines on the clutch disk match up to the transmission input shaft. The pressure plate and flywheel are the same for all the applications I'd expect, it's probably just the clutch disk that varies by model. And for the 330i and 328i size difference, I'd think that the 328i kit uses the 240MM clutch disk.

But if I were you I'd double check with UUC. UUC knows their stuff about BMWs. When you get it done, please report back. I'd like to know how it feels compared to the OE dual mass flywheel set up. This kit wasn't out (or I didn't see it) when I replaced my clutch back in December 2015. All that I found were lightened single-mass flywheels, which induce vibration into the drivetrain; I was looking to cure a vibration problem I had with my drivetrain, which is why I went OEM parts.

Like I said above, make sure you get the throwout bearing guide bushing, because the one in your car will have wear on it. The 330i P/N is 23117531354 "Guide tube".

Good luck with it.

Just bumping this in part to bookmark it but also to see if any others have feedback re the Valeo kit. I think my flywheel is responsible for my car feeling like crap and I’ve never been a huge fan of the OEM self adjusting clutch/DMF setup.
