Changing Door Seals E92
Like many others I have wind noise from both doors when I go up in speed. It starts from 130-140 km/h and gets worse at higher speeds. I have allready aligned the doors and lubricated the seals and it helped a bit. Before I start adjusting the window angles I'm changing old door seals.
This is the seals: Door Seal – Left: Part no 51767175783 Link: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51767175783/ Door Seal – Right: Part no: 51767175784 Link: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51767175784/ This is parts that I have just removed. Nothing broke, but I will probably change the clips as the foam gaskets are flat on the old ones. FRONT ENTRANCE COVER Left (Original) (SCHWARZ): 51476951381 Link: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51476951381/ FRONT ENTRANCE COVER (Original) (SCHWARZ): 51476951382 Link: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...r/51476951382/ Clip With Seal Ring (Original): 51477117532 Link: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...51477117532kt/ Picking up the seals tomorrow and will keep you updated. Hopefully its straight forward, but I would appreciate tips if you have done this before. |

Just picked up the parts and quickly decided that this is not a job for me. So I called BMW in Norway and they will do the job for me on monday. Since Im using original parts and they do the job Im also insured against any waterleaks from this sealing for the next three years. They price the job arround 60 minutes of work so its a no brainer to me. I will keep you updated next week.
Edit: Just took another look on the seals. I think ill try mounting them myself. The black plastic part in the upper corner is just a bracket so the seal wont lose Its form. Not something that is part of the installation which I thogth right away. Last edited by 944Turbo; 10-13-2016 at 03:41 PM.. |

Just a follow up. I successfully replaced the seals and wind noise became much better. At speeds above 150 km/t some noise came from the passenger window, so I decided to get the windows readjusted. The main BMW dealer in Norway even had to order special tools from BMW Germany to get it correctly. They adjusted the windows about 5mm in on the top. Had a little wind noise when I drove home, but it was just the mirror-quarter panels that had to be pushed in a few millimeters so they fitted to the new window adjustment.
The car isn't dead quiet inside at higher speeds but the wind noise from around the windows is as good as gone. Big difference! |

Its self explainable. I used my hands and a clean rubber hammer to put on the new door seals. You can try to adjust the window yourself but I decided to let BMW do it to get it perfect and a guarantee against leaks. They use some kind of six-way adjustment and needed special tools to do the the job. I think what DIY's describe is a simplified method, but I'm not sure. The mirror quarter panel was bent slightly by me using hands.
I should mention that before I did any of this I aligned the doors on the lock-pins. |
