RWD 6MT 328i Metallic Sound?

Hey guys!

I'm noticing a sound when I am driving my 328i 6MT that makes me question whether or not it's normal or if it is something that is slowing failing/breaking... It's a tough sound to describe, but I'll try my best! If nothing else, I will see if I can record it and if the sound is picked up on video.

But essentially, I am hearing a metallic clunking (this is the best description that I can find in my vocabulary... Haha) sound that comes from the rear of the car when I put it in gear and slowly start moving (either in 1st gear or Reverse). As far as I know, it only happens when I am starting to roll from a complete stop, or when I am moving slowly and apply the throttle followed by letting it off.

Is anyone familiar with what I am referring to? I'm sure it could be completely normal for a 6MT RWD, but I would rather be safe than sorry!

I would appreciate any input! And if everyone is still confused I can try to record the sound on video!

Yes! A 'click' is a great way to describe it! So how would I go about greasing this? Is there a nipple somewhere that I can grease it through? Could you give me some steps so that I can get this job done?

Could also be the brakes missing a spring clip. Easy to look through the rims.

I was able to get the aft end of the shaft unfastened and pushed over to the side with a bit of elbow grease... I didn't remove the heat shielding but undid a few fasteners and bent/folded it over to the side(not too much to avoid permanent damage to it).

As for the flange, I am pretty sure an air impact wrench will be required, and precautions are required to retorque it(some people(myself included) will scribe the nut and flange to position the nut where it was) because there is usually a crush washer in there.

I did this quite some time ago, and it silenced my diff for the next 40-50k kms until i swapped it out.
