Damage Caused when driving with no Power Steering Fluid...

Hey Everyone,

So out of my stupidity I've had been searching the engine high and low for what smelled like a horrible burning smell. Today I opened up the Power Steering Reservoir to find it pretty much, completely empty. Just went and picked up some CHF202 filled it up.

Curious what kind of damage I could have created by driving my car around like that? Probably logged about 1k miles in that state.

Well, the power steering pump is belt driven, so it is perpetually trying to pump fluid thru. So it depends upon the pump design...if centrifugal, probably no issue. If there are internal seals, they could be damaged. No detail in Bentley's.

The power steering fluid should be CHF-11s unless 202 is an equivalent (specs are different between the two). You also need to inspect the system. It has a leak somewhere; it shouldn't lose any significant amount of fluid.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

What got me looking into it was a review on Amazon from the chf-11s. Guy mentioned that the CHF202 is cheaper and most places that have chf11s still is just old stock and for some reason is more expensive. Went to advanced auto today cause they were holdling the 11s for me $27. They had loads of the 202 in stock and it was $20.

Correct, CHF-202 and CHF-11S are interchangeable.
