Should I take her to Vegas?
Question for everyone. I have about 100 miles on my baby right now, and next week the girlfriend and I are planning on going to Vegas. Should I take my 330i? It'll certainly get me to the break in mileage faster, but taking her on a 4 hour drive to Vegas, will I be okay? I mean, I would love to open her up a bit on the highway, but just wondering if it'll be best to get her to break in point by just staying local. Thanks in advance.

600 of my 1200 break in miles were on the highway. I made sure to change gears every 10-20 mins (like from 6th to 4th) to make sure the revs were fluctuating. did not use cruise control. keep it under 100 mph and have fun!! These cars are made for driving, no way you will hurt it by driving to Vegas.
Stop at Calico on the way to Vegas, its a fun ghost town and there are some nice twistys once you get off the 15. |

Only reason I wouldn't take my new car to Las Vegas is that their Valet Service scares me sometimes...it has been a issue back then when Couple of Valet kids were drag racing in underground parking with Ferrari I believe & forgot the other one...making doughnut and shit...ever since then I either take a flight, rental car or take friends car haha!

i'd drive it, but don't valet it. i know those guys park ferraris and lambos and shit, but as long as they let you park your car yourself there (which most places do), i would.

If your really anal about the break in you wont enjoy the highway driving too much.
Your not not supposed to keep it at any one speed for too long and that turns into a headache after a while, especially when you have to deal with local speed limits, at least that was my expererience.

Best way to break the car in IMO. I have done this on several cars, E36M3, E46M3 to name two and had no issues.

Regarding the Ferraris, you can easily rent one from the many exotics rentals in LV. If I rented a Ferrari I'd be pulling doughnuts. Not my car.

On the contrary.... only park valet but be sure to tip first!! I live in vegas and I only valet. If you are concerned, tip first... and you can also ask them to leave it up front, ofcourse that calls for a larger tip. If you do decided to go to a shady place then park yourself, or park at a nice place and hoof it or take a cab. if you need advise on a good resturant let me know!! |

For break-in of the car it is not recommended that you do long stretches on the highway, because you do not cycle the engine enough. I have seen the owner’s manuals for MB, Audi, and Porsche and they all recommend that you cycle the engine through, and stipulate that you should not pass 2/3 of the rev limit mark, usually before you reach 1000 miles.
I just broke 1000 miles on my car and will slowly; ever so slowly start to open her up. One of my co-workers did the same thing with his 04’ 530i, and the car runs perfectly well and has not had any problems. Jon.
