Then we would have BMW remotes interfering with each other and unlocking each other's doors etc. I understand that the 2 remotes for the e90 are exclusive (carrier frequency wise) for your particular car.

330i doesn't come with alarm. You can add it. The same remote will be able to control the alarm.
Here's a pic of the E90 remote:

Isn’t there the same amount of buttons on the 3 series fob as the 7 series? I thought the BMW emblem is also a button on the 3 series key.

I believe that it can not be done. The 3 series key fob, seems to have the same amount of buttons as the 7 series. But by looking at them, you can clearly tell that they are not the same specifications.

No, the 7 series key uses a older techlology and isnt compatable with the E90 system.
The slot type is also different for the 2 keys

The fobs are different sizes.
I'm not one to complain, but it would be excellent (even if an option) bmw would offer a credit card sized key (supplied in addition to the fobs) for CA owners. If the CA and credit card key failed, you could use your walet key and the adapter!! |

Switchblade FOBs are the best. I liked the Audi's...looks like BMW apparently only offers such a FOB for the upper models.

Actually there are no switchblade fobs for BMWs (at least, as far as I know) - the old ones use a 'bladed' key with built-in fob functionality, the newer ones, with the start-button system - use a bladeless key, similar to a Mercedes 'Smart Key'

Isn't that 7 series FOB posted above a switchblade? I thought it was one but if not, hey, then Audi gets the cake for this.

The switchblade key is almost identical to the key I had with my previous VW Jetta. The folding mechanism was very nice, but you had to use the "metal" key in order to start the engine.
With the BMW, you will only need to use the hidden metal key on the rare instances when your remote doesn't work (dead battery, etc). If I were to compare the Audi/VW key to the older style BMW keys (the ones used by most BMW's prior to the E90 and newer E60), then Audi/VW was definitely better. However, the current BMW keys would be my choice over Audi/VW.
