Which oil?

About to purchase some oil for my car. Obviously full syn, however any recommendations on 5W-30 or 5w-40 or anything else for that matter. I live in Germany and the winter months are approaching if that helps you give better advice. Also, I plan on using Amsoil and overtime I click BMW it automatically recommends Euro type of oil. Someone please tell me I don't have to buy this expensive oil over here and Amsoil will be just fine. Thanks for any input!

I recently changed my oil @ 1,300 miles with Mobil1 0W-40 European formula. I've run this in my Porsche for 10 years. I change yearly or 5,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I use the Penn Euro 5-40 inbetween free changes at 5,000 miles. I checked out the Pennzoil website, the 5-40 is recommended as the premium choice. BMW oil is rebadged Pennzoil.
