BMW Online
I've recently bought a 2012 328i with Pro Nav.
Thanks to the help on this forum I've successfully updated my maps and also coded my auto stop/start to remember last setting. All good The only thing I cant get my head around is the Connected Drive bit. I recently had my car in at BMW and it seems they've updated the software. I did an update to the BMW Online bit through the iDrive whilst driving the other day and after about 10 mins it reported a successful update. I am unsure what any of this actually does and if I need a subscription for any of it. My phone is connected at all times (Moto G4) If anyone can explain what it all does I'd be grateful When I start the Online it gets the following : |

BMW on line is normally a 3 year from new service so if your car is a 2012 model I would assume that the subscription has run out by now.

I dug a little deeper and found that you have to apply to BMW by emailing a form and a copy of your reg doc and they will enable the car.
When I log into the site https://www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk/ I can now see my car. However I don't seem to be able to do anything with it without buying a subscription for ConnectedDrive Services at £120/yr I had hoped to be able to use the BMW remote app on my mobile, I can now log in to the app and see my car, but there are no options to do anything with it, presumably because I need ConnectedDrive Is there anything I can do with this without the subscription ? Seems a lot to pay (my road tax is only slightly dearer) for something I guess I can easily live without - just a shame that for most people it'll be redundant once the car's three years old |

After speaking to BMW it appears that all online services (even including the remote app on a phone) requires the subscription - so given how often I'd use it I wont bother. A shame its not thrown in as part of the AUC deal.

Need to haggle when buying. Got it on my old 135i when purchased 2nd hand from the dealers many years ago. Might be worth a quick call to them to ask nicely / suggest that you had hoped / expected all the functions to work?

Got to be worth a try, it's a reasonable expectation.

I was looking at the coding document in the coding forum and came across the following bit :
BMW Live Enabling Once BMW Live is enabled, you can tether your phone data to your vehicle to use the in-*‐vehicle internet browser and BMW Live Access. However, you will lose the ability to do Online Searches in NavigaKon and BMW Online Services. **Not a recommended if your car includes BMW Online/Assist** This got me thinking that perhaps there is some way of using the features, presumably via my mobile, that means a subscription to BMW Online isn't required Possibly this is just a North America thing (hence why I'm posting in the UK part of the forum) Any ideas anyone ? |
