BMW All Weather Floor Mat Installation & Review

There is no greater modification you can do to your car than adding all weather floor mats. Ok, so it may not be as exciting as some of the other mods we can do to our cars, but for me, this is a necessity over the factory carpeted mats, which are surprisingly thin.

The mats arrived yesterday along with the black kidney grilles (grille installation post).

I ordered the Basic Line - Black instead of the Sport Line - Red or the Modern Line - Beige to keep the all black look of the interior. They are essentially the same floor mats. Here are the part numbers:

BMW All Weather Floor Mats / Basic Line - Black Front
51472210208

BMW All Weather Floor Mats / Basic Line - Black Rear
51472297420

Installation was very straightforward. The front mats are held in place by replaceable Velcro discs. The discs are already in the car for the carpeted mats, but BMW gives you a new set and recommends you replace the existing discs with the new ones. The rear ones simply set in place.

The side to side fit on all four mats is nice and snug. The passenger front mat does not sit flush to the floor as the driver's side does. This might be caused by how the item was shipped. It arrived almost folded over so it may take time to rest in its new position.

My first impression of the driver's mat is that it is slippery on the heel of your foot. It is not causing any issues for me, but I hope this goes away with some use. I have read similar things about the Weathertech mats as well. OEM all weather mats I have used in my other vehicles do a better job of providing grip, primarily because the ribs are more pronounced.

The drivers does get less slick with some wear. You can also cut the tabs off the front of the mats if you haven't already.

I wanted to order these but I was worried how slippery they would be. I drove a loaner that had them and they seemed very slippery. I have the weather tech in my truck and they don't feel slippery.

They're only slippery when new. They have some kind of coating, which wears off after you get some dirt on them. Mine use to be slippery but no longer.

After driving the car for a few days the mats have become much grippier. What are the tabs at the top of the mat for?

Yes, as BEM said, trim those tabs at the top of all 4 mats. Those are for displaying in a dealership, on a rack with the included hanger.

If memory serves there's actually an imprint of a scissors logo on them
