What Key Case?

Been done a few times in the past. The keys are big. Yes. The OEM key cases make them bigger. Yes. It stops you accidentally opening the boot. Yes. All this rings true, but has anyone bought anything different to protect their key? Likely in just going to buy the normal blue M sport OEM one. But any different ideas appreciated.

Watching with interest as this is something I've looked at since acquiring my car two weeks ago.

I also find the 'quality' of the key is very disappointing - it's too light & feels very cheap. Even my Mrs Fiat 500 key feels better made!

I have the m performance one and it has broke 3 times and had to be replaced. It has a 2 year warranty so it's not too bad but would I buy again? Probably not.

Definitely need a case as I accidentally opened the boot whilst my car was parked in the garage causing the boot to wedge against the wall

I bought the M Performance alcantara key fob which has a nice feel, however be aware its shockingly made and mine broke within a month (£40 !! )...I have yet to take it back to the dealer.

Was it the blue hex screw that sheared off at the top? Exactly the same thing has happened to mine and it's only a month old and not exactly abused. I am thinking on ordering some M3.5 12mm stainless steel screws to fix it myself

Yeah it was mate. The same blue nut at the top keeps snapping.

I thought about tweaking like you however I wouldn't as parts guy told me the moment you do that the warranty is void as you tampered with it. I just have to keep going back for a new one every few months. Annoying! but at the same time I keep getting a new one.

Glad I haven't forked out for the M Sport key case from the dealers then if the quality is bad, it was one thing that was on the shopping list.

Guess the hunt continues...

I've had my M Sport OEM Leather Fob for about two years now and it's still ok, however I do have to tighten the nut with the small Allen key provided occasionally.

Cheers chaps. Seems we are all in the same boat. I had the blue OEM one for two years it was fine for me. Should not have let it go when I sold the car.

OEM one seems the best bet.

I have had a blue one for a couple of years. Quality isn't superb, but it works. My wife bought it for me from somewhere... On-line I'd guess. I'd accidentally popped the boot from he sofa on a very rainy day!

She never actually drove the 330d Saloon, but with the arrival of Junior and the 340i Touring I think she will have to drive this one. It's a big squeeze in her Mini for baby stuff...

So, bought 2x Mini key tails and a red holder for her key so we can pick up the right key... Also, touring boot accidentally opening could be problematic!...

Right hand three came from the main dealer.

I'm not sure if I bought a dodgy one or not (£20 on ebay ) but it doesn't bloody even fit in the holder.

I imagine that's a dodgy one

I remember the leather being smooth on the OEM one I had. There's another pic of a 20 quid special further up the chain with the same style leather.

I've bought this one from a main dealer. Not used it yet but fully expect it to be as bad as the others I had.

I plan to replace the screw with a stainless bolt and thread lock as soon as I can.

Don't overtighten the blue alloy screw on the M performance one, it's pretty fragile as noted
