Will 17" wheels fit over 320 M Brakes?

Can anyone tell me if my 17" BMW winter wheels fit over a 320d with the blue MSport brake upgrade please? I know they won't go over a 330d with the upgrade but just wondered re the smaller engine.

Thanks.

I am pretty sure not - when I was buying winter wheels for my 330d they checked and 18's were the minimum but I will stand corrected if someone else knows better.

No, they won't. You need minimum 18" wheels.

The 320d's M Sport brakes are 30mm smaller though, so they migh fit!

isn't it the calliper (thickness) clearance not the overall disc v wheel diameter that is the issue in that the 17s don't stick "out" enough for the bigger callipers ?

Thanks for your response but these are for 320d, not he 330d which I know won't fit.

Thanks. 30 mm is probably enough to get them over.

The BMW product expert in Prentice BMW told me that they (service manager) have an F31 320d M Sport with the blue brakes, a nd they run it with 17" winter wheels.

I have yet to see it, and would doubt it, but I am prepared to be proved wrong. There doesn't appear to be anyone that has actually tried it though.

Is they m brake set up on the 3er or 4er not exactly the same as the M135i? I have a set of the 17" offical winter wheels which I was hoping I could possibly reuse on the 440i GC.

Also if they don't fit then spacers could make them fit!

I don't think they will fit, my 18" 441M's were snug in my 330d and the 40i cars get those front brakes as standard, irrespective of blue or standard.

My 340i brakes look huge... Optically bigger through 442M than those on my 330d through 403M wheels. Though, I think both are 370mm rotors. So, I don't think a 40i car stands a chance with 17" wheels.

Really strange topic this. I believed you could only get 18's on a 3er/4er with the blue M Sport brakes but when I had my alloy refurbed the garage put on a 17" alloy and it was fine? I was surprised when I drove off that there was no scraping or anything. To be honest I weren't the happiest because I was worried they could be scraping against the caliper but I did check every day (paranoid lol) and there was definitely a gap (obviously, otherwise there would've been a not so nice noise as I drove) and it was fine for the couple of days it was on so

This ^^ The 320 will have 340 calipers, 335d/335i and above have 370 calipers.

Was it a front or rear wheel?

I had an old set of style 157 8x17 winter wheels which I test fitted to my 335d with blue mSport brakes. the rear wheels fitted on ok but the inner rim fouled the front caliper.... and wouldn't go on.

there is a chance 17" wheels might clear the 320 smaller mSport caliper but don't kknow . the front caliper will be the limiting factor

If in doubt do nought. Better safe than sorry, excuse the cliches, 18" and up will fit over M Sport brakes, do the sensible thing buy the 18" wheels.

1 series have a very different wheel offset to 3ers.
My previous 1er on 17's were ET47
I think that 17's designed for an F30/31 have an offset around ET30-35 and should fit a 320D with the smaller Msport brakes.
The 1er wheels would sit 12-17mm closer to the caliper ie inboard with the higher offset.
ET is the location latitudinally of the wheel rim under the car. Lower is out, higher is in in mm.
HTH.

Thank you for all your replies guys. The wheels have now gone to someone without M Sport brakes, which made for a much easier discussion

That probably explains it then, the rear discs & calipers are smaller!

I have 17" steel wheels from an X1 that I use as winter wheels on my F30. Mine is a 318d with the M-Sport brakes. They fit.
