Buying a 'new' BMW - Why?

I see these threads of people waiting for their car, checking genius every day and generally getting hot and flustered over the process. I really don't think I would have the patience, but props to all of you for sitting and waiting.

I wanna know 'why' you guys buy these cars new, like what is the main reason? Next time I plan to buy new, 'if' I am in a financial position to do so, but god help me as patience is not my strong point.
  • Having your own spec?
  • New car discounts & APR rate lower?
  • Having the latest model?
  • Knowing you are the only one who has owned/been in the car?
  • Warranty

Any other reasons I have not listed, and you wish to state!?

Would be interesting to hear from you guys!

Used ones are rarely to desired spec and don't trust previous owners with upkeep cause I buy to own

That's what I mean, but the way people moan about how long there car is taken to be made is their own fault for deciding to buy new then right?

I understand it must be frustrating but this must be known before ordering right about how long it might take.

Unless you are buying an 18 month+ old car, don't bother with second hand, well not from BMW AUC. Apr too high and cars too pricey.

It can be seen how much the monthlies can be on a brand new car with discounts and lower aprs. I bet there are lots on non-savvy folks out there that turn up at a dealer and buy a second hand car and pay the same if not more in monthlies than a brand new one. Then they are stuck with the spec.

Exactly that.

Even just going off Coast 2 Coast cars, you are looking at an easy £9k discount on a 340i.

Pretty much agree with most of whats already been said.

The car I have now, was offered on a lower apr than BMW's AUC's, which tempted me away from buying new.

I started looking at a new car, but the choice of spec, colours, etc blew my mind to a point of thinking, if I did order new, then on delivery I'd probably wish I'd ordered this, that or the other spec or colour....that was before I knew about this forum!

So I appreciated the fact that this car was there, ready to go and it took my choices out of the equation, was happy with the spec, so paid deposit and picked up 3 days later with a deal I was really happy with.

Moving on 1.5 years later and I now have my first ever new car on order.
Wanted to do it to mark an occasion and treat myself, looked and pondered for months every night at colours and specs, between my top 3 vehicle options.
Made my choice after many test drives and since paying the deposit I've not once thought I've made the wrong spec or colour choice. Its right for me and cant wait.

But thats the problem now, the waiting!
I knew what I was getting into and thought the wait would be a nice part of the ride......how wrong I was!
Once you pay the deposit, the wait isnt something you want any more.....at least not for me.....its killing me, but luckily I have HELL of a lot about to start happening for the next 7 weeks or so, that will help the time go quicker.....and I've been waiting for almost 2 years for this next lot of stuff to start happening

New vs used is compelling....

I was offered a demo M5, £80k+ list for £50k at a 'special' Apr.

The X5 is still working out almost £100 cheaper p/m

I'm with the OP when it comes to waiting months for a car to be built, it's very annoying, did it once only.

But you can still buy a new car without the wait, there are plenty about, just requires some leg work finding the spec you want. These are often at an even better deal.

Also, I've bought pre-registered - the car had covered less than ten miles and was still wrapped in protective film.

For me it's a balancing act between lead time and the deal on offer. I don't compromise on spec. And I don't keep cars for years so a three month wait is too long.

Spec mostly, I'm a fussy bugger and I likes me stuff. First time I bought a new BMW I was dead excited, 2nd time I wondered what all the fuss was about. Six months after that I realised what a waste of money it was! (Sort of).

Not in my case! Was told 12-14 weeks yet it's taken 28 weeks...and counting!

Think that's given me the right to moan

That would have been seriously tempting! If it wasn't for my stupid Spaniel (which I actually love very much, she's very cool) I'd be in an M3. Possibly. That or a 6GC. Or maybe an M4 convertible. Or a 911. *sigh*

Yes we moan about timescales but generally unless you are unlucky like grant! we all know its 6 to 8 weeks and its just we want the new toy asap!

It is fun waiting, reading, you tubing etc every detail of the car before it arrives and generally its only people like us i.e interested enough to join a forum that do so. Joe bloggs public doesnt care, is happy with 5k off list and carries on regardless until his/her mode of transport arrives.

Nothing beats new car day (family related stuff excluded obviously)

So far, I agree with this post the most. There must be so many 66/Pre-reg cars sat out there already that unless you are REALLY picky, they must be decent. Tbh the more I see this forum, the more a new car wait really does put me off.

BUT when it comes down to it, money is a big factor and if its cheaper to go new then maybe sometimes what has to be, will be.
