Is there a better all rounder?? I think not!

Well I,ve had the 435d for around 18 months now and it still amazes me how good an all round car it really is. It got me thinking what would i replace it with if i was looking to change it out but i cant think of a single vehicle that can match its all round abilities, now im taking into consideration the mods I've done to the car with the major items being Birds 4X suspension and an Ecotune remap resulting in the car being a lot faster and better handling.

Positives

50+ mpg on my 30 mile trip to work in the early morning on a combination of A, B and town roads

12.3s 1/4m time (fastest German diesel winner at the weekend )

Comfortable for cruising on the motorway and taught in the corners when pushed

Big enough boot for my golf clubs and trolley without taking the back seats down, big enough for 2 reasonable suit cases for holiday time.

German engineering....touch wood not a single problem thus far.

Looks great.

XDrive gives great traction in any weather.

So whats your thoughts on something similar for the same sort of money? Not a lot of options

As a standard car it has its flaws, but with what you've done to it, you'd be hard pushed to get something better for the money. Even an M3/4 isn't going to be a significant enough improvement to swap your car out considering the extra cash you need to stump up.

I suggest you keep it and wait till the next gen 3/4 series comes out, then repeat what you've done on that.

There isn't a lot else out there to match that.

I'm of a similar opinion for the F31.

Now, I'm a serial car changer. The list of what I've owned over the years is huge and very varied, from my first car (Volvo 360GL) through Lotus Carlton, TVRs, Range Rovers, Z4 coupe, various Audi and BMW estates and saloons ... well, I've usually changed my car every 9-12 months.

But the F31 is different. I've had it getting on 3 years (December 2013), and there is no compunction to change it. The twin-turbo 325d is quick, economical, it's comfortable, the car is well-specced (was a list of £45.3k back in May 2013 when it was a press car, I bought it for £30k with 3k miles on it), and it does absolutely everything I could want of it.

I really do struggle to think what I'd change it for.

What power you making from the Ecotune map? I had Ecotune stage 2 map on my previous E90 335d and am planning on a stage 1 on my F30 335d

It all comes down to money and therefore the answer to your question depends on each individual person and their circumstances e.g. why not get a new 435d every year?

Nice car though and if it keeps you happy not wanting to change it, perfect!

397bhp from a map alone (Stage 1) but it can differ from car to car, there was some serious e91 335d's running the 1/4m at the weekend, circa 430bhp but they struggled to get the power down off the line so couldn't better a 13.0 dead but when up and running they were impressive. Stan doesn't have stage 2 for the F series yet but when he does it could be an option and im guessing it would take it to near 430 - 440

Im more thinking about what is out there with the same appeal that has most of the attributes the BMW 3 & 4 series offer, doesn't specifically have to be a diesel for me but the appeal of decent mpg with decent performance is hard to come by, i do like the S4, it has most of what the BM has but it just doesn't do it as good although a map & suspension would make it close on all accounts apart from mpg

Got the same car, PXing it for the last of the 535D M Sports, fully loaded and 30% discount.
I've gone for Moonstone paint with Cashmere Beige Merino Leather, dark Metallic Painted wheels.
With the comfort seats and all the bits like HUD, Adaptive Suspension ect should be a real good buy.

love those wheels the big engine f3x's are such good cars. I cant think of anything south of 55k that would get me out of my 340i and even those cars come with space compromises that would require getting the mrs a bigger car that she doesnt want. I think it would have to be an m3 that would get me to change right now, but thats a lot of extra cash

Plenty of better cars for other people with differing needs, wants and tastes, but as you say it's perfect for you, so only you can decide if something else would be better.

I'm thinking smaller not bigger Dan, if they take the 240i out in xdrive I would seriously look into purchasing one of them.
