Newbee saying Hi!

Here's my first post on a BMW forum - coming over from owning an Audi for 12 years!

On Wednesday we pick up our 2014 325d M-Sport and I think i'll have a few questions along the way. I can't help but modify cars so have a list already!

Anyway, the car is Estoril Blue with Coral Leather, Pro Nav, Xenons, heated seats, tow bar, extended light pack, privacy glass, heated steering wheel - not sure if that comes as part of another pack seemed a strange option on it's own?, Blue brakes (are those the M-performance brakes, then?), HK sound and some other stuff I think i've forgotten about already! Pretty decent spec.

It's done 30k miles

Now, my questions:
  • With the pronav do I automatically get "Apps" and "Office" or do I need the coding upgrade to enhanced bluetooth
  • If I code enhanced bluetooth can we then connect 2 phones at once and if either rings it comes through the bluetooth
  • We've got an iPod classic for the car - best way just to connect with the apple cable under the armrest or do i need the Y cable i keep reading about?
  • Nav maps upgrade - how do i get these is it dealer only?
  • Winter tyres - it's got 403's on, which are obviously staggered. I know BMW would sell me the winter tyre set with 18's and the same tyres all the way round. What are peoples experience of the 403's with winter tyres?

Sorry for all the questions, sure there will be more to come!

Mods planned are the black grills, M-Performance splitter, skirts and diffuser and black exhaust tips. So far......

Cheers

Chas

Looks great! Congratulations on joining the fold...

With Pro-media you shouldn't need any cable but the manufacturer supplied USB cable to play back music from an iDevice. However, I found my iPod classic didn't play well with the non-navigation iDrive on my previous 14 plate car. It would crash the iPod after an hour or so. Also, artwork is designed for a tiny screen and doesn't look great on your 9" job. iOS devices play better in my experience. Presently using a 128GB iPhone 6.

Winters are best with a change of wheels, changing tyres over isn't good for them. Though, buy new wheels taken off a car and you can save a packet. I've got 18" MSport 441M wheels and put my own tyres on them. Saved about a grand on dealer prices! 225/45/R18 all round even on staggered wheels is no issue and keeps insurers happy. Not a modification in any way and my insurer, LV, doesn't even need any notification.

Welcome newbie

Looks like a great spec car you have coming.

Put the last 7 digits of the VIN number into bmwvin.com to get the full spec and then we can work out what you have and haven't got regarding Enhanced Bluetooth.

I think from memory you will get Apps as standard but won't get Office unless you have EBT. Yes, you will be able to pair and use 2 phones if you code it.

Someone will be along soon to answer the other questions............

Welcome.

EBT gives you office and the ability to connect 2 phones.
The normal iPod lead should work fine with pro nav when plugged into the USB port
Maps can be updated by the dealer or yourself. Plenty of info available on how to do it.

Cheers guys!

The dealer is ringing me today so will try and get the last 7 digits of the VIN. I will also ask for a map update too thrown in... :-) (as well as the black grills)!

So, these:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-18...QAAOSwFdtXxwG3

and then put 225/45/18 all round for winter? Might look out for a set with less tread hopefully cheaper than that and chuck the tyres and get the winters on there!

thanks again!

If you wait around a bit sometimes a set of winters come up in the classified section here. I got a set of non oem with almost brand new vredestein wintrac xtreme for less than those on ebay.

And you have to clean your 403's in the bath when your winters are on. The missis loves it, honest !!

That's the gist. Maybe sell any summer tyres already on also...

224/45/R18 runflat Pirelli Sottozero all round did me fine.

I wouldn't say there's a consensus.

Non-RFTs seems to be a Marmite thing - those that have them love them (Michelin Pilot Super Sports have a loyal following on the Forum).

Those that stick with OEM RFT prefer not to move away from stock, or want to avoid the potential hassle of a flat tyre (carrying TyreWeld or Slime + compressor is a good backup if you run non-RFTs), or perhaps have a less performance-orientated driving style.

Personally I run MPSS and wouldn't re-fit RFTs if you paid me.

Welcome to the Forum BTW

YES !

We need more 325d owners on here, well done that man !

Regarding RFT (or not), I'd suggest initially seeing how you feel about the ride quality. My car has adaptive suspension, and even with the 403's and RFTs, I find the ride quality perfectly good. Without adaptive, it might be a bit too firm.

Welcome to the forum. Great looking car!

My vredstein wintrac extremes are on my 403s. Wasn't really bad snow last year, but they did cope very well. Obviously I gave them as much testing as I could when it snowed up here!

Cheaper to get smaller wheels, but I was lucky enough to pick up spare set of summer wheels and tyres on here. Brand new 442s!

Good luck!
