Fuel Injector Seal Tools Required?

I'm buying new fuel injectors without the seals installed. The specialty tools seem very over priced. I'm wondering if I have to buy installation tools or if I can get by without them.

How hard is it to slide the seal on without a tapered cone? Could I use an O-Ring tapered cone or an ear-stud tapered cone instead?

Has anybody found a good way to compress the seals without special tools ( hose clamp, zip ties, etc.)?

You absolutely need the tool set. I used Assenmacher Tools (AST) BMW9054 with no issues. Very easy to use.

I changed all 6 of my N54 Injectors without any special tools.

IMO you don't need them

However my injectors came with seals installed (as all OEM BMW part numbered ones should).

I bought the aftermarket injectors from advanced auto parts that people on this forum recommended

If you are installing "new" injectors, you don't need any special tools. New injectors should come with new seals that are protected and compressed by a disposable metal sleeve that is removed less than a few minutes before the injector is installed in the head so that the seal does not expand and prevent proper successfull installation into the head.

Just search injector install and you should be fine and be sure to code the injectors when you're done.

You need the removal and compression tool when you are swapping injectors as it should increase the probability of a proper installation of new seals (should be new for every installation, people will argue) so that you don't damage the head (leaks) which I imagine is a nightmare.

Pretty telling. That alone would make me think twice about using them.

New injectors have always come with seals but not the decoupling elements. I would say that if the injectors didn't come with seals they may be remanufatured unless I'm missing something. Search.

So there is no risk with these injectors. We are simply avoiding the BMW tax and mark up. BMW dealers sell these with a huge mark up.

I think the dealer wants in excess of $240 Each. I've found them as little as $215 each from an authorized bmw dealer. I got the same ones on rock auto about a year ago for about $110-115 each.

This $138 price is a fair deal for new injectors these days. Supposedly Re-Man injectors are going for $450-500 for all 6.

I'm not a fan of the re-man'd injectors as I heard people have trouble coding them since the flow numbers are no longer accurate which is crucial to operate efficiently. I could be wrong on this last bit so if anyone has further experience feel free to chime in.

Hope this helps!

Which ones did you buy from Advanced Auto Parts? I see 2 different manufacturers for the fuel injectors. 1 being Carquest by Intermotor which is sold out and one from Genuine Fuel Injector OES.

Have you had any luck with them and did they come with the decoupler rings and seals?

Thank you

is the cone this thing? ECS sells it for $26 plus shipping.

You didn't have to use any of the compressor rings?

even though Advanced Autopart's webpage said the OES Genuine injectors didn't come with seals, they actually had seals installed already. The didn't have decoulpers though.

I'm glad I didn't buy any tools.

Want to revive this a bit. I got new injectors from rockauto, they did come with seal pre-installed. However there is no compressive cap on it. I don't know if they stopped doing it or something. Ecstuning told me they even don't include seal with new injectors anymore. I guess my question is do I still need to compress the seal even when it's already "pre-installed"?

You'll need to replace the seal and compress it. ECS is full of shit, I bought new injectors in october, all came with seals and compression caps.

Thanks, I should clarify that I was referring to the n55 eu5 injector, not sure if other injectors are different. But still strange rockauto doesn't have the caps on them. The injectors were sealed in package as well. Did have some question on the tip as well. Here is my post https://www.xbimmers.com/forums/show...5#post27397085

Also when you say replace the seal did you mean I need to put new one on? I understand the need to compress it but the seal should be new
