Audi S5 DSG:

I wonder and hope if this will be a lot quicker than the regular 6spd S5 and if it will be a lot closer or as quick as the M3 with 6spd manual tranny.

The shift times look to be wrong, 100ms is way off which has been reported (30ms) and much slower than BMW's shift. This is a prototype and things should improve but that side of things should have been sorted long before magazines get to test it.

The shift time is slow for a DSG system.

Just curious. Can you point out the definitive shift time for any dual clutch system?

Swamp,

Try and get yourself a copy of this month's EVO, the show a graph of acceleration between a 599 with F1 transmission, XF with ZF Auto, 335i in manual form and two DCT cars, the GTR and 2.0TT. The great thing about this graph is it shows the acceleration/speed in meters.

The F1 transmission in the 599 (which shifts as quicker as an M6) you can see each shift very clearly with a stop in acceleration for a few meters, the 335i is the one which was most noticeable (this was to be expected), but both DCT cars showed no (zero) break in acceleration. What this proves to me is that what you feel is exactly what is seen on a graph, which is zero break in acceleration, meaning their equipment couldn't measure the shifts.

P.S.

They noticed a surge in the GTR, much like the what is being reported for the M3's DCT but to me I didn't see any difference to the line that the Audi produced, both lines were a smooth transition between gears with no noticeable humps.

It's a very compelling piece of writing for the benefits of both DCT and modern automatics.

u'd hope it gets closer to 335. RS5 might be very close to M3 with or without DSG. i was hoping Audi would stick to MT in their sportier cars, keep them exclusive to real car enthusiasts

I disagree. It's 0.2seconds (200ms) for GTR's DSG so....100ms could be right. If its 30ms, then that would be
