Upgrading Turbos Help?
I know this must be thread #1,097,797 but I'm about to buy new snails for my car. I have almost 140k miles on the stockers and the rattle is killing me. they're no longer reaching target boost either.
My current modification are: Upgraded FMIC AFE CAI Air Scoops Wedge Stage 2+ Tune Kittyless DP Synapse Charge Pipe + BOV I am looking at Stage 1 Vargas with billet and inlets upgrades and it's looking to be about $2600 shipped and then another $1300ish to have them installed by my mechanic at B&B Autohaus (Located in San Diego). Is this my best option for price? I am on a tight budget as I'm going through a divorce currently. |

The OEMs rattle but thats about it. They still are very, very reliable even with all the crazy stuff we do. The aftermarkets wont rattle-just blow up Do a search and see how well aftermarkets are holding up. All claims, negligible proof.

I was afraid to post a similar question in fear of getting flamed. I've been sarching our threads for days,,, but our "search" function is lacking.
I'm planning to spend more ($3-$4k range), and I'm assuming from the "searches" that I've done that the Pure, RB's or MMP solutions are the best in that price range. I seem to see people complaining of issues with VVT, and huge issues with Hexon (blowing up). are there other brands that I should look at (that I've missed)? I have a sweet new dual BB Garret turbo (72mm) in my garage (that I had obtained for my supra but never put it on) but I like the idea of very little turbo lag with the twins vs. the big single.

8Series i decided to go back with stock as well. If you want a little bit more, have them slightly modded and you should be good.

Yes. You will need E85 and upgraded fuel pump and upwards of 20-22 psi. At those levels the life of the OEM turbos will likely be shortened.
Hexon is out of business until further notice, so you can remove them from your options. I would go with Pure. Their Stage 2 are a little pricey and overkill for your goals, but you won't be pushing them near their limits, so they may just last you awhile. You can also try to work with Pure on a custom Stage 1 version at a reduced cost. I was talking to them about this earlier this year when I thought my turbos were smoking (turned out to be a PCV issue).
