No love for OEM 401 Wheels
So I see a lot of members with 403, 405 & 442 wheels but is there no love for the 401 wheel as a different 19" option?
Friend of mine had them on his AW Sport model & personally I liked them |

I like them too.
I think the reason you don't see many is because they weren't available on M Sport models. Many (but not all) on the forum see M Sport trim as a must, and I guess those that don't are less likely to care about sporty looks, so less likely to upgrade to 19" wheels. Edit to add: BMW seem to have an odd strategy when it comes to which wheels they offer on which cars/trim levels. Back when I got my 1 series coupe in 2008 I really wanted the 264 wheels, but in the UK they were only available on non M Sport models, or the 135i. Loads of people in the US were swapping their (default over there) 264s for aftermarket alloys, but I couldn't get any for a remotely sensible price. Not that I'm bitter or anything.... Not much love for the 400M on here either but are a cinch to keep looking good...Never been obsessed with wheels myself ... get plenty of comments because I have "only" 18 inchers on!

I rather like my 400M winter set, and dealers often end up with an excess of them from those who order M Performance wheels, meaning they can be bought new very cheaply. For an 18" set they look pretty good.

I did as JD6 says and picked up a set from a dealer so I have a summer set and a winter set.

I don't get the love for 403s - they look nasty and you can track the threads on centre cap issues and people trying to get them re-finished when they inevitably kerb
400 or 442 are the best. |

My favourite wheel criteria:-
- Looks good - Higher profile OEM but not silly sized - Diamond Cut contrast looks great to me, and I like the darker interior rim for a bit of dirt hiding - A nerdy thing that I think enhances the looks a lot is the wheel bolts being in a black recess on the wheel, almost hiding them - Few spokes as possible, thus easier to clean A few F30 options tick the box for me, as others say the M cars meet all of the above to my eye. Next wheel for me is a 20 on the M50D:-

I do get where you are coming from as a BMW owner... they do shout "2012" to me.... but the cost of replacing a set for the sake of it is madness in my opinion... they will last me till I retire in 5 years and get me M3!

I used to think that way but got taught a lesson when I didn't pay enough attention to ordering a company car and got these:
Mind you I then discovered the 'upgrade was these! So my next car had these: Then when I got the XF - one of the first available - the choice was limited but I managed to save a colleague from accidentally ordering the standard wheels Although they didn't get much better at that time: So like Chris, my next car is going to be STRONG on wheels: YES, you are correct, it's fair to say I have become somewhat obsessed with wheels since for me they are the standout item on any car, hence my post the other day about buying new wheels for my 13 year old Saab

For an 18 wheel I think the 658 is good but you can only get it on the Luxury - would look good on a MSport I think.

I agree. I brought my car into the shop for a slight vibration 40-50 MPH. They said I have 3 slightly bent Style 415 turbine and I loved them, however style 658 has always been second favorite to 400m. I wouldn't put 400m on a 17 320i xdrive sport line. I ordered a set of 4 658 yesterday to switch over from the 415 from ECS.

Since an old tread got resurrected and because mines are very similar to 401 (but with concave) my 2 cents
Well balanced look, nothing stands out, moderate liking that can last for entire ownership of a car. |

Wow, a 2016 thread! Lol
In reply, I like the 361 wheels, but I can't say I have ever seen any in person.
