Two Weeks For the First Service

I gave my car for service yesterday at 1200 miles and now my dealer called and said that oil filters have to come from Germany and will take one or two weeks. Doesn't BMW stock filters that are needed for the first service when they launch a car? What the hell is this?

Someone else posted this info. It seems to be true for the US in general at this time. Doesn't reflect well on BMW.

Yep. I posted on this last week. Same problem for my 1200 mile service. I am still driving around with a filter that needs to be changed. This is not good planning on BMW's part.

Might depend on the city you live in and the volume of M3s around. Maybe one advantage to be surrounded by Ms on the road everywhere.

The first cars were supposed to be Demos, we were not supposed to sell them. But with so many people coming in and drooling over them, we had to give in.

I decided not to take the car from my dealer till the parts get here as I dont want to put in more miles after 1200 before the first service. However, I am very disappointed with BMW. This sucks really bad. Why do they sell the cars when they cant have a stock of filters for the first 1200 mile service?

So your M3 is just off chillin for 2 weeks at the dealer? How many miles do you live from the dealer? I am sure that the car will be okay man just to drive it back to your home until the parts come in. Unless that is your only ride and you need to drive a lot so taking the dealer loaner would be the best option.

This is a bunch of crap. Call BMW USA corporate and bitch up a storm. We spend this much money for a car and then have to wait two weeks for common parts. Sounds like your dealer is also to blame for this sh***. They love to take your money, but they could not go out of their way to tell you this before you brought it in for service.

it's not really the dealer's fault. They can't just call BMW and demand parts. And the dealer also probably didn't know about the problem until they serviced their first M3.

Thanks for the heads up on this stranger.
I just called up the dealership and made sure they know I am going to be hitting 1200 soon and to get my parts on order!!!!

I recommend others doing the same. Notify the dealerships that you plan on coming in so that they can get their orders in early. Of course, after my orders go through!!

Ya it does suck. Another member posted that he had taken his car in for
the 1200k service and it needed a part and the dealer didnt have it.
The dealer said the car is still very new and they dont have all the parts
in.... Thats really fucked up! Waiting to break the car in till you take it in
and you need parts that the dealer doesnt even have. Make me

I just hope by the time I get my car, the dealers will have most of the parts!

Best of Luck

Jack

I was about to take it back home, but later decided not to as it had 1163 miles on it and I have to wait for one or two weeks for the parts to arrive. I live about 8 miles from the dealership. This is my only car, so I thought it would be better to leave it at the dealership rather than getting it home and not being able to drive it.

You are welcome.

I am with you on this. All those who are nearing the 1200 mile mark, I strongly recommend you to inform your dealer about you coming service and to check if the parts are ready or have to be ordered.

That's what I did. Mine's the ONLY M3 in these parts so you can bet that they have absolutely NO PARTS in stock. Nothing that an advance heads-up can't solve though.

Ill be doing a road trip after I pickup my car in early May. I should probably just have my local dealer order the parts for me that way Ill have them with me in case the dealer ( who might be in the middle of nowhere ) does not have them in stock

Service parts delay confirmed

Response from my dealer's parts guy about the delay in service parts: "The rumor is true , however Germany does have over 1,200 available and we should be seeing those in the next week or so, if all goes well."

BTW, M3 trunk mat is still on backorder, as well.
