335i Downpipes on 335xi - Making them fit?

Hi all, I've read this somewhere but having trouble finding the thread again - but I thought the 335i pipes could be "massaged" to fit around the xi subframe with some patience and a small hammer.

I'm about to buy a set of used 335i pipes, and I can't find the thread with people discussing this now. Can anyone link me or chime in? Sorry - I've been searching for the last hour and apparently, doing it poorly.

Pipes in question are VSRF pipes.

Save yourself the effort and just buy a set for an XI.

An inch or so is basically a mile down there.

Yeah, I don't disagree. I'd love to buy used XI pipes, but trying to save that $$ - my time is free!

Can anyone confirm/deny with experience?

Won't fit. No chance. I did my 335xi downpipes and it is tight af down there. Like less than 1/4" clearance in a few spots.

Ah nooo! I was afraid of that. Okay, that's XI pipes being tight AF.

But, has anyone retrofit I pipes to an XI?

Just be patient and wait for the correct part. They do pop up in the classifieds from time to time.

As others said, not worth the effort, you'll be cutting up and hacking the RWD pipes all day.

It's tight enough you have to put them in the opposite of the directions you find online.

As others have said, it's already tight with the xi down pipes, and if you're doing the install yourself on an xi it's a headache enough the first time even with the proper equipment. Even if you could eventually get the other dps to fit, I'm sure you'll eventually run into a problem with them, ie not reliable, exhaust leak, etc. Do things right the first time with the right parts and you'll be much happier
