DTUK Tuning Box

Spoke with DTUK today to ask them what the turbo boost pressure increased to on a C43 tuning box, they did not know and said they would check with the manufacturers

However they are TUV approved, I am not 100% sure what that means but was advised that cars in Germany that have tuning boxes have to have TUV otherwise the cars are impounded

Within 20 mins I had a response from DTUK who advised that the manufacturers have come back and said the standard car runs at 1.1 BAR and the box increases this by +0.2 to +0.4 BAR

What are peoples views on this, does the increase in boost seem sensible, I appreciate that reliability will be a possible issue in years to come etc.

Ive used a dtuk box before and keep mulling it over for getting one for the 340. You dont have to set them to max power settings and while any after market fiddle is a risk I would havee thought a small increase would be fine.

Its not only the turbo boost that's increased, I thought these cheap boxes increase the fuel rail pressure too?

Many people will most likely tell you they've had a box for x thousand miles and never had a problem. But its a bit of a gamble with your warranty and only you can decide if you want to take the risk.

Its funny how we hear of many examples where no-one has any problems - but hardly hear of those that do have a problem.
I've had problems with tuning boxes in the past, but not on BMW's though.

They are £650 so not exactly cheap. My own experience is having a BMW map but only for 12 months then sold the car.

Guess I will get the car see what its like then decide.

Garage List
Tuv approval is good

It's a German standard that says it does what it should on the label without affecting/compromising the rest of the car

Just google it.

Not quite true. TUV approval means that the item has been tested and shown to have no affect to the safety of the vehicle. The TUV do not test any performance claims of the manufacturers.

Definitely not true! By UK law, the manufacturer can only refuse warranty where they can PROVE that your modification caused or contributed to, the fault/failure.

So they might try and wriggle with any claim on the engine or gearbox, but the onus is on them to prove the tuning box caused the problem.
