Service due in 9000 miles 08/2016 -> What's this

Guys, since my bought my new 435 coupe last Oct I had only put under 3000 miles on it.

From last month, on the dashboard it's giving me "Service due in 9000 miles 08/2016". What does the date at the end mean? Does it mean I must have the car serviced in this month??

Seems it's coming from engine oil tracker -> so instead of go by actual oil level, it go by time????

No it means you'll need the service in 9,000 miles. My guess is that the date is off

Dont mean to thread jack but what is the grace period in which you can take your car in for service? As in 100miles due? 500 miles due? or must it be after?

I took mine in about a week after the miles and I was over about 600miles. I don't think they really care as long as the time is relatively close.

I always thought the meaning of that was like, "service your car in these miles or by this date, whichever comes first" kind of deal. Sometimes even if you haven't driven your car the full mileage, if it's been a year (or whatever the time interval is since some items are time based, not mileage based), it'll ask you to service it as well.

It means it's anticipated that you'll reach the indicated mileage by that date or you'll reach the recommended maximum time interval by that date, whichever comes first. You don't have to have it serviced then, but you can't get no-charge maintenance service before then. In any event when the car decides that you need service within the next 30 days it will say so. It will inform your dealer too, who will probably send you an email telling you to set up an appointment.

This! The service is required if you reach the number of miles or the date. Whichever comes first.

That means you need to get it serviced in 9000 more miles OR this month. In other words, you should make an appointment immediately to get it serviced.

Does the car actually reach out to the dealership? I had a the dealer call me a few times and say " Your car is letting us know its due for service " i figured they were just making that up and going by my records and milage. Needless to say I told them I do my own maintenance and anything I cannot handle my indy can handle.

Yes, the built-in phone (for BMW Assist) calls in the service info.

I took mine in with 3000 miles left and they serviced it. :-)

Wow, that's generous of them! Would be good for someone who's approaching 50k but would be just over that number when the counter goes to zero.

It was in for a TSB, so I just asked them: Why not do it while I'm here..

Last time it was done I was at 2,300.
