Oil thermostat delete plate, plugged?
To do an oil cooler retrofit I swapped a non-oil cooler housing for an oil cooler housing with a thermostat delete plate so I can run AN lines to external t-stat and core later. (The plate is tapped for the lines right where it should be). If I PLUG the plate, wouldn't I be starving the engine of oil? Or would it still see oil at just too high a pressure? It would be better just to run an AN line from the in to the out, right?

Ok smart N54 guys I know you're around, just answer me this. I've browsed through some N54 training materials but can't find what I'm asking.
First, the basics. What is the usual path for oil? Is it a one-way street through the filter, for all the oil, at all times? Is some oil being circulated to the top of the engine and to all parts of the engine "twice", before filtration? Does only some bypass the OFH? Secondly, when does the oil pump bypass kick in and what does it do? Does it still utilize the in->out path of the oil filter housing? |
