Bad JB4 Board?

Just had my motor replaced from a rather epic block explosion and all is put back together and ready to go, but a vac test is showing normal vac before the solenoids and no vac after the solenoids. Just updated the JB4 to the latest firmware, flashed the car back to stock, tried two different sets of solenoids with the same issue. Terry mentioned that it could be a bad board or power wire, but the board worked find prior to the swap. First time I've had this issue in over three years with JB4. Pulling the JB4 tonight to see if the issue still persists, but has anyone else experienced this? Also, VRSF inlets were just installed with the motor. Tried both with the vac canisters and without.

my 1st thought would be to see if its the JB4 or the solenoids. See what happens when you remove the JB4.

Are you able to switch maps and get into the jb4 menu from steering wheel or connect via USB?

Yeah, steering controls worked fine and I updated the firmware. JB4 will be pulled later to check. I have two sets of solenoids and both do the same thing.

The small screws to the AMP are trash in my humble opinion. Over time the connection gets frayed/bent/etc and goes bad. I had it happen to me twice in 9 months and ran out of patience before buying a third unit.

When that happened to you, did you have similar symptoms? Figured a bad board would make it so I couldn't update the firmware or really have any JB4 function at all.

Yea; the JB didn't have power so wouldn't turn on.

Pulled the JB out and boom, problem solved. Sending the board back to BMS tomorrow. Still have no idea how I was able to use the steering wheel controls and update the firmware while this was malfunctioning.

They fail at a disconcerting rate in my opinion.

Well, first one bad in three years so I guess that is a good streak. Really hoping this was not the root cause of my engine exploding... At little concerning considering this was discovered as soon as the new motor went in after previously working fine.

IF the JB was 'on' it would be blocking the CAN. The car would run but won't really go anywhere (ask me how I know). Since the JB doesn't do fuel directly, I tend to doubt it would create a potential hyper lean or hyper rich issue. Obviously, you'd know if it was going nuts with boost.

I doubt the JB caused you to lose the motor. Still, it's frustrating that such an important piece of the puzzle is held together by such cheap parts.

That's my thought process as well. The motor went while I was in cruise control at like 2500 RPM in vac, so I am still digging into the cause. I have a thread about this a couple pages back, but I am going to update it with some pictures that are pretty epic.

Turns out the shop who replaced my engine did not connect the power wire properly. The power wire was connected to the meth power wire and installed wrong. I pulled the meth wiring out completely and reinstalled the JB4 and it worked perfect. Sent the board out to be verified by Terry and all was good... The one time I actually have someone else work on my car is for sure the last.
