OEM Short Shift Kit question
OK, I've looked at a number of the posts on this and it looks to me like the shift lever is simply shorter, as if BMW simply cut an inch or so off of the top and recut the notch in the top. Can anybody confirm that the pivot point isn't any different?
Thanks |

The pivot point on the SSL is not any different than the stock one. This is a pic I took off the DIY guide:

Thanks. I'll probably get flamed for this, but it looks to me like you could trim a little length of a stock shifter rod, regroove the top and get exactly the same affect as buying the OEM SSK.

you can get the shifter for $65, and is likely an easier option than trimming down the stock one.

I wonder if the USA one is the same as the european one. I am in and out of the states so could easily pick on up. Bound to be cheaper than what it costs in the UK

There is a difference in the distance of the ball to lower bushing centerline. This creates a greater ratio of movement of the transmission shift linkage to shift knob movement. As a result there is more of a difference than just cutting off the shifter would gain.

I took some shots of the shift kit. It is a lot shorter. Not as neat/clean as my 350Z, but there ain't anything better for this transmission that I know of. Hope this helps.
