Configure Sport?
Having a play tonight with Idrive and I noticed it has a setting to either configure Eco pro or configure Sport. Not noticed it before and not interested in Eco Pro but the Configure Sport gives me 3 options to choose from, Chassis and Drivetrain, Chassis or drivetrain.
What does this actually do? |

Sport mode - You can have it set to stiffen up suspension and steering (chassis)
Or Improved engine responsiveness (drivetrain) or both (or neither, I suppose! LOL!) With Eco Pro settings, you can dick about with how much a/c you want and a number of other dull settings to make your car pretty dangerously unresponsive, if you so desire. |

This is pretty cool, however does it affect the suspension? Does it make the suspension less stiff if the chassis and drivetrain off? I'm assuming this is not the same as adaptive dampers? |

"Chassis" only changes the steering heft, if you don't also have adaptive suspension. "Drivetrain" is gearbox (AT) and throttle mapping.

I have adaptive suspension so set my sport mode to drive train and chassis. You notice the difference on suspension firmness (or less rebound) stiffer steering and sharper throttle response. I would recommend anyone to have adaptive suspension as an option on a new car.

No. On M Cars there is a separate button. But not M Sport cars.

When you press your Sport button and go to configure, this will appear in the idrive. Note the chassis selection.

However, when I have checked my spec against vindecoder it doesn't mention adaptive? Can't say I've noticed the suspension difference when driving in sport although it has been set to Chasis and Drivetrain. |

Get under the back of the car and look at the rear shocks. If they have a big solenoid sticking out of them connected to a wire then you have adaptive suspension.

So if he has the chassis option as the screen above, but say it doesn't have adaptive, what does changing to Chassis do? Just the steering?

The 5-series loaner, what have you got? A model without the Sport auto (2TB)? From my experience, 5-series with 2TB and passive suspension have the Sport mode options menu on the iDrive screen. But BMW do change the format through the builds.... |

One of the ways I used to configure it on my 335d was to press the Sport button then while the car diagram appeared in the idrive, select the lower left option on the screen which went into the screen above. On this 530d there is no lower left option to select.

The first F10 with sport auto gearbox (2TB) I tried, had the screen option on moving to Sport mode, plus the menu option within iDrive settings. Another F10 with the standard auto didn't have the option to split the chassis from drivetrain. I understand the 3-series is also not consistent (over the builds) for the sport menu options. |
